First site is finally finished

Hello everyone,

I can breath a slight sigh of relief now as I've come back online after a week and after just over a month of working hard in my spare time the day has come to let you all know my good news.

I can finally say that my first site is finished and online working away, its early days but my visitors to the site has slowly been climbing. I still have content in the wings waiting to be uploaded to the site, to keep it updated with new blog's and fresh uploads.

I have a slight bit of work left to do as I haven't wrote any articles for SA yet, this is in the pipeline as my writing needs to be improved before I submit anything there.

I was wondering thou if you wouldn't mind nipping over to http://abouttropicalfish.co.uk and letting me know what you all think to my first site, also if you have any comments on how you think i could improve it at all this would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Morgan

Your site is great! What template did you use? I have a stained glass site that it would be great on. Are you using WordPress. Can see a lot of work went into this.

thank you, i used a WPzoom theme but i did have to pay for it thou but i would recommend them to anyone as there so easy to use.

Morgan, you can tell that you definitely have a passion for tropical fish. The only fish I had that I could actually take care of was the Betta Fish. You know when putting the pretty rocks at the bottom of the fish bowl along with a beautiful peace lily I think it was. I had those fish for almost 3 years.

Are you sure this is your first site? It looks amazing and has a lot of useful information on it. You've already gotten some great feedback so the only thing I can recommend is VIDEO. I am one of those visual people and if/when I go to get a tropical fish I'd love for someone to show me through video of how to clean the tank. This way I know I'm not doing anything that can harm the fish and I'm able to follow along.

When you write the articles think about how you can re-purpose it as a video and put that video on YouTube and vice versa. If you do a video then write up a tutorial/article that goes along with the video.

Another suggestion that goes in line with what Veronica said is maybe an ebook that explains the temperature for each size tank. I went to Yahoo Answers and typed in Tropical Fish and there were quite a bit of people asking about the temperature for different tank sizes.

All in all, you did an amazing job for this being your first site. You're going to do great!!! Looking forward to seeing this grow. :)

thank you for your comments, I love keeping betta fish they look so peaceful within your tank :)

Yes this is my first site ive created, i did have someone from WA who helped me out along the way when i needed it.

I do like the idea of videos in the blogs and this is something i will have to look into in the future, within my posts as everything is now becoming involved with video footage.

I might have to look into doing that as one post, if there are many people asking about it. This is one area which im going to be looking into for my new articles.

Thank you again :)

Morgan,

Hard to believe this is your first site! Looks great. I would personally put your option form at the top of the widget column with a more commanding call to action like "Don't miss our weekly reviews. Make them feel like opting in will give them value and they can't afford not too do so. Make sense?

As Steve, said below becoming an authority in this niche means continual additions to the site via content etc.

Awesome work Morgan!

David

Thank you David, I sometimes have to tell myself I created it with a little help. I never thought I could of created a site which looks like this.

I can see what you mean about the newsletter and I'm going to add in at the top also changing the title to getting people into signing up.

I'll make sure that i add continual content to the site making me an authority

Thank you again David

Nice site Morgan! I have a fresh water tank myself (going to start a new salt water tank once I move) and you have a lot of valuable information up there already. Very clean, open theme as well. I may have to start recommending that to beginners because it's very easy on the eyes.

In terms of content, how often do you see yourself adding new material to the site? I would recommend trying to set a schedule of when you're going to add new articles. That way once you get a few regular visitors, they'll know when to stop back for new information.

Overall, great site! Very nice work!

Thank you for your comments Steve and im glad that the site has come across like this as that's what i was trying for. I found the theme very easy to use especially as a beginner i would recommend it to anyone to use.

I'm glad to hear from another fellow fish keeper that you found my content valuable as this was my main worry in case i hadn't done enough.

I'm hoping to write up about two posts a week to upload to the site as this will also add depth to the newsletter which i was thinking of doing once a month.

Thank you again

Hi Morgan,

You have done a fantastic job with your site Morgan!!

A few things for your home page I would add another category so that you get some more "meat" showing when people first land on your site. Add maybe the "fish guides" as well to the home page.

For the sign up/newsletter I would add a "gift" to give away when they sign up. For example a small e-book that you put together "10 best tropical fish for your medium tank" I am not the expert here lol but hopefully you see what I mean.

I would also add the "contact me" to the menu bar Home / About Me

Morgan these are just small things you have done a great job with the site. Now keep adding great content, write up some articles and submit to directories and start driving traffic to the site...

Well done,

Veronica

Hi veronica,

Thank you for your advise towards About Tropical Fish, i can see how you mean with the more meaty aspect on the home page showing there is more for them to chose from when they land.

I think i might have to look into creating some sort of gift for signing up to the newsletter, i could maybe do a little e-book once i get my writing skills up to scratch.

I might just have to add the "contact me" to the menu at the top aswell. I'll also get onto writing some articles and driving traffic towards the site :)

Thank you again Veronica

Great site! There isn't really much I can find that needs adjusting, except maybe putting the newsletter signup as the first thing in the column on the right, followed maybe by your fish, equipment books, widget. Really not sure if you need the topics and archive section on the page as it seems to be a rehash of the items you have on the top of the page.

Other than that it looks great, and that's just my 2 cents from the look and feel aspect. Your content is awesome!

Thank you for your comments about the site, i can see where your coming from about the newsletter sign up. Again thank you about the content aswell :)

Morgan, I just left your website and I must say I learned a few things right from the first page! I never really had thought about fresh water vs salt water tropical fish. I just thought about salt water fish.....I have learned something new and I will stop back in and read more on this subject. I am in no way qualified to suggest any improvements, but I found the site very easy to use. Again, congrats!

Thank you very much for you comment and i'm glad that i was able to teach you something from just the first page

Great looking site Morgan. Quite informative and enjoyable. This site should work well for you. Peter

I would love to look at your site! Tropical fish are so beautiful and I wish I had nerve enough try my hand at having a big tank of my own. Oh, by the way, congrats on getting the site finished and working for ya!

Thank you for commenting. I'm sure that one day in the future you could have a good sized tank. Its such an amazing hobby to have.

Congrats. Morgan. However, I couldn't possibly comment. :P

I spose :D but thank you so much for all of your guidance and help along the way
