A Huge Explosion Strikes Beirut, Lebanon - Please Pray For Us!
Dear members of Wealthy Affiliate,
Today at 6:30 PM Beirut, Lebanon time, a huge explosion hit the port of Beirut. This is something we have never seen before.
One CAN NOT DESCRIBE WHAT HAPPENED TODAY.
The blast was, loudly heard, created a 5 on the Richter scale earthquake and shattered the windows of many homes miles away from its starting point. The sound of it reached Cypus 264 Km away.
All Beirut's hospitals are FULL, till now more than 4000 injured, 75 dead, and 70 missing persons, and tens of thousands without a roof over their heads!
NO WORDS can describe the immensity of the devastation and the death toll is through the roof.
May all the victims rest in peace.
Please, again, I beg all of you to Pray for Lebanon.

Morning of August 5, 2020:
More than 75 confirmed death, more than 4000 injured many with serious injuries.

Despite all the sadness, devastation and grief ... The sun will shine again, and from the ashes and dust we will RISE AGAIN.
Let me express my deep gratitude for all those who joined us in prayer for the Lebanese people.
Humanity has to stand together, no matter our religious, ethnic, and color differences.
#PrayforLebanon.

Mark,
A bomb? It was reported as a fireworks storage facility with video showing small explosions before the blast with one heck of a shock wave!
R.
Please check the videos on media outlets, it created a mushroom like effect and the amount of devastation went far from what any normal explosion can do, it was even felt in Cyprus! Officials denied the fireworks theory.
Yes the shock waves were very large almost kiloton level.
If it was a bomb there can only be one source!
Take care Mark we are just receiving updates now!
R.
You are most welcome only words are a poor substitute for such devestation!! Hang in there and take care through the confusion!!
R.
Mark,
Lebanese Interior Minister has confirmed it was an Ammonium Nitrate storage facilty. Ammonium Nitrate is explosive and explains the mini intial explosions.
He has confirmed 27 deaths unfortunately and health minister confirms thousands injured.
The Beirut port facility has been obliterated which in itself has other far reaching consequences!!
If I remember my history lessons Lebanon has two other ancient ports don't know if they are still in use.
Very very unfortunate!!
Be well, safe and take care!!
R.
Yes, we do have a port in Tripoli, but can not sustain all the country needs, does not come even close. And considering the hyperinflation that we have along with COVID 19, the consequences are beyond our government capabilities.
I thought as much as the countries needs to sustain the larger majority have to come first.
Land routes will obviously have to increase use and hopefully with kind aid port facilities can be reinstated quickly.
My thoughts are with you in these dreadful times.
R.
That's 2000 Tonnes of TNT!!
Woke up to as you are probably aware that Trump has stated that he is being advised that it was some form of bomb. No evidence as yet and contrary to Lebanese Government issued conclusions.
Crazy crazy world!!
Take care!
R.
Yes, I lean towards a bomb theory, Trump wouldn't have slipped the info if it wasn't because of a serious discussion with his generals.
I think investigating such an incident requires high level of forensic expertise. I don't see the real truth of what happened emerging soon.
Marc.
I lean towards the first order of priority aid to get the port back up and running asap and replenishment of the very large amounts of wheat in silos that were also obliterated.
The amelioration of the suffering that this will cause the population should come first.
The recriminations, speculation, investigations can follow in due course

Hi Marc,
Like many people, my only experience of the Middle East is through news reports.
TBH, all the Arab-Israeli conflict news has, down the years, hardened my attitude to what goes on in the area.
A late uncle of mine, told stories of being abused by both sides - Arabs and Jews - when he was serving there after WWII.
I realise that this is not the right way to view things, but I wanted to tell you my honest views.
I'm glad that the international community: France, The U.K. and others are offering to help. Black, White, Jew, Gentile - we all bleed red blood and we all have a mother and a father - If only we could all get along!
I will think tonight, of the families that grieve for lost loved ones and also for those that worry for the health of their injured relatives. I will also count my blessings....
Tragedies like this, make what we are trying to do on WA seem somewhat insignificant...
My thoughts are with you - friend!
Very well put George, we all live under the same sun. Thank you for your kind words.
Marc.
