Promoting WealthyAffiliate IRL
Today, I came across a post in one of my local buy/sell/trade groups, that was a spammy post. It was some generic advert for a money making opportunity, that provided no real info, but instead asked people to "inbox for more info". Instinctively, I flagged it as spam, but was also like "Prove this isn't a scam". An hour or two later, I am greeted with a message request, from the poster, telling me that I was invited to an address in my city (Indianapolis, IN), Tuesday night at 7. I ask "What is the event?", to which she replies "orientation. Learn about the business". 10+ messages later, of me having to wrestle basic info out of her (including the company name) and it turned out to be a waste of my time, or was it?
I learned, from the last angry reply from the messager, that it was for a life insurance company called Primerica. I research it, and learn that it is an MLM. You should pretty much avoid MLMs at all costs.
I did not however, tell the messager that I already had an affiliate business on here. She probably doesn't even know that WealthyAffiliate exists, for all we know. As we are well aware, WealthyAffiliate is NOT an MLM. I doubt many of the would-be attendees of that "orientation event" know that legitimate, actually fruitful, avenues of making money selling products, such as this site, exist (kinda like how most people at real estate investing seminars, such as FortuneBuilders, know about, let alone have, traditional investments (401(k)s, IRAs, ...) or emergency funds, but that is story for another day). I should go there to spread the gospel of WealthyAffiliate! Problem is that I don't know how referral program works here.
Someone please enlighten me, so that I can go to this seminar prepared, and ready to save a bunch of people from wasting their money on "certifications"/software subscriptions from Primerica, or more importantly, their time. I have first hand experience having my time wasted by an MLM (over 5 years ago), and by a door to door sales gig (about 3 years ago), so I can not allow this to go down unchecked!
DISCLAIMER: I haven't yet made my first dollar on here, despite being on here for 3 months, so I cannot bring much in the way of personal experience to the table. :'(
But that is on me, and I'm striving to change that!

Not all MLM's are a waste of time. I've worked with a few in the past that were fantastic, both in product and in the people who created them, their leadership and the people I met. Warren Buffett has created an MLM that is crazy successfull...and that doesn't even count Avon and Mary Kay!
Sounds like you will want to take the Affiliate Bootcamp training asap to do what you'll want to do, but I promise that the folks whose program you crash will not thank you for being there!

How'd it go?
I didn't go. It would have taken me so much time, that I could be spending elsewhere, like learning about how to finally get that first dollar out of this business.
