'Why is my content taking too long to get indexed?'

This is one of the most common questions asked within the Wealthy Affiliate family, so I created this post to help other people who might have a similar question get the answers that they need.

First and foremost, getting indexed is not an exact science per say, and there's no official time frame within which Google may guarantee to have your content indexed. However the official estimate given, is that it can take anywhere from 4 days to 6 months.

As you wait for your content to get indexed, I advise that you take a moment to find out whether your content is being crawled as this is the process that precedes indexing. As long long as your content is being crawled, you can rest assured that eventually it will be indexed.

To find out whether your content is being crawled, go to Google instant and type in the word 'site' followed by a colon (:) and then your website name .com

site:your site name.com. For instance my website name is newdayaffiliate, this is how I would do it

All my content that has been indexed and my content that is being crawled will show up like you can see in the above screenshot. The content that has been indexed already will have its title highlighted in a different way just like you can see my topmost result in the above screenshot.

All your content that is being crawled will show up, and you can have hope that it will get indexed eventually.

While indexing may not be an exact science, there are things that you can do to speed up the process.

  1. Share your content on other platforms like Google+, Facebook, Twitter etc.... This will result in more engagement, which is what Google desires.
  2. Use the site feedback platform here at Wealthy Affiliate to get some comments on your posts and other content. My recent posts got comments and ended up being indexed before my older posts.
  3. Create quality content. When you create quality content, your readers will keep sharing it because they deem it as worth sharing. This will result in more engagement too, hence faster indexing
  4. Give it time. When your website is still new, Google may take longer to index your content since you don't wield any authority at all. But as you continue creating more content , Google will start falling in love with your site and your indexing time will begin to shorten.

I hope this helps. In case you have any questions, leave them below and I will do my best to help you out.

Good luck.

I followed your advice and tried to see if my site is being crawled and nothing showed up. Should I be worried about this now?

This is super helpful, thank you!

You are welcome my friend, I am happy to be of help.

This is great! I have looked my site up and all of my pages are there, even the ones I didn't get a "your page is indexed" email about. Thank you

That's great! I am happy for you .
