Transferring my website to WA

I was on the phone with Go daddy today, and I had an interesting conversation with the young man who was helping me. Here I thought I was free from go daddy, and he said no think of us as the real estate you lease the name from us, hosting is where you build the house. Same thing said in Kyle's tutorial, but I didn't listen. So I asked about moving my site and he said well you don't have to renew until March so you have plenty of time to decide, or we can help you. Interesting I thought, why don't you just help me now, since I've stated I want to transfer.. So I paid the $15.17 to continue to "rent" my domain name, and got off the phone thinking I didn't ask the right questions in this conversation... Please share your thoughts..
