Some experts say that the trend is to make shorter YouTube videos. Other experts say that the trend is to make longer YouTube videos because more and more people watch YouTube on TV.

So, which advice should you follow when planning content?

I share my thoughts on this in this short video.

Good morning Mikael,

Thank you for another training video, Mikael, they are always very helpful.

This is a subject that I hear a lot about, but I don't believe there is really a right or wrong answer. I listened to short videos and long form content. However, if I was looking for a video on how to do something, I would probably go for the shortest video, or, the video with the most views.

I believe the main thing is that we are giving valuable information, in a given time.

My guess is that my average video time , for creating a video, is around eight minutes, but that can probably vary between 6 to 10 minutes, depending on what I'm talking about.

I have seen these videos, not so much on YouTube, probably more like TikTok or Instagram, where they have been edited, so there is no breathing space, between sentences and paragraphs, just roll into each other, etc! There's probably a name for this, I know they're trying to get information out quickly, but I just move away, it's almost too quick to take in and just abnormal for the human brain to listen to something with no spaces!

On another note, I see your channel is getting near to the 500,000 subscriber mark, what a fantastic achievement, Mikael. I guess that once the summer holidays are over, you will reach that mark quicker.

Once again, keep the videos coming and have a great weekend.

It's always a pleasure, Mikael!

That really is a major achievement, Mikael, for a kind of small channel! I believe your wife helps you and you have someone help you with the comments, but still a fantastic achievement. Bravo to that!

Good points, certain. I am one who watches YouTube on TV in the evenings when I'm done watching a movie and just need something small (20 minutes?) to wind down.

I was thinking, perhaps it would be a good idea to do both. For example, I could make a long video on "Public Transportation Options from Munich Airport to Downtown." And perhaps a part of that would be a section on "How to Get from Your Gate to the Train Station." The big one could be 30 minutes maybe, but the short one could be 3 or 4 minutes - something a user could call up AS THEY ARE STANDING in the airport.

Editing strands of a longer video to make shorter, more immediate videos could be helpful, IMO. And you could link back and forth.

That could definitely be a way to do it. Some channels are doing that.

I like keeping my videos below 8 minutes. I have one video at about three and a half minutes with 3,600 + views. and a couple of shorter videos with around 1,500 views. Most of my videos get only a few hundred views no matter what length they are. From what I understand, videos at less than 8 minutes will not get interrupted by adds. So that is why I try to keep mine under 8 minutes. MAC.

One thing to consider is that it is actually good for your ad income of there are ads in the video.

OK. I was not sure how that works with the income.

Once again, I vote HYBRID.

The “long form” videos create words in the transcript (keywords) that are searchable through the YouTube platform.

The “short form” videos are brief and consumable, which is appealing to those that prefer not to spend their life on YouTube.

It’s not either/or, it is both.

2

I agree. But it all depends on your niche and audience.

I think you're right to test for yourself/ourselves. In my case, for my English as a second language website, I make 30-60 second shorts and full-length videos. The shorts get far more views. I still plan to make the longer ones though.

I don't have enough data for my other websites yet to determine which is best but I will say shorts seem to always do pretty well.

Thanks for your video.
