Something to do with scams, scammers - I remember Kyle said, so they decided to cut off the free membership option to certain countries where a lot of scams are tried (multiple free accounts or something)

I read about countries not allowed for free membership but not because of scams from those countries.

there are various countries in the world where it is not possible to have a free membership. This is because those countries are the main source of scams online. As of 2015 these countries are:

Bangladesh
Egypt
India
Nigeria
Pakistan
Philippines

My understanding is anyone can start with the free membership, never heard of this before. I would do what is suggested below.
