Hi WA Community,

I'm looking to start my youtube channel this week, but I've hit a snag in trying to find a software program that can record an audio, mix it to a set of

Hey Michael,

What OS are you working with... Windows10 offers a great way of creating videos using PowerPoint.

Using Windows 7 myself, I created PowerPoint slides and then hired a voiceover gig from Fiverr.

Hope you find this helpful.

Powerpoint can record but it doesn't seem to edit well ie cut a mistake out and put some music/ graphics in at the start. It's a great idea about hiring the voice-over though - I have quite an accent and that might help reach a bigger audience as well as saving some time!

Recording a video and editing a video are two different things.

In my example, I created the slides, timed them while speaking the words, then hired a voiceover recording in which I then embedded the audio file in PowerPoint, making editing unnecessary.

Having used Wondershare in the past, I would tend to go for that software if needing to edit a video.

I use screencast-o-matic pro to record my presentation with a snowball usb mic. I then edit with Filmora.
Both are basic and inexpensive tools and work well for my purposes.

Screencast-o-matic pro is that just the $4 a month (solo premier) upgrade for the free version?
Also - I'm thinking screencast may be my next attempt - can you not edit film (or in my case slide presentations with animated timing) with that too?

There is a small annual subscription for the pro version - removes the watermark.
You can do some basic editing with it but only on clips you record with it (to the best of my knowledge)

I use screen castomatic Pro which is good

I use Camtasia - not free - $300 - it's a full production video editing software - can be used on PC or Mac. I use a Blue Yeti mic with a pop filter on a mic stand

Ditto, but I haven't invested in a pop filter and mic stand yet, And my Blue Yeti is actually blue. 😎

Hi Marion, Thanks for replying. Quick question - have you used screencast as well? I seem to remember a training video somewhere with you on screencast (I may just be imagining it?) and if you did, what made you switch?

It's definitely camtasia or screencast. I'm no expert tho. I basically just need music, slides (or screen video) and audio voice over. My only worry is if camtasia would be overkill and more for people creating more advanced projects?

I only used Screencast-O-Matic once about 4 years ago. I've been using Camtasia since then.

These are 2 very different programs for sure - you definitely have way more versatility with camtasia then a basic screencast program

I personally use screen-cast-o-matic and it is very good. They also just released an app.

Seems to be a favourite

Hi WA Community,
I ran a GT Metrix speed check on my website this morning and got an 'F' for photo optimization. I've then spent the next few hours researching plugins etc b

Hi Michael,
I just did a video training yesterday on entire site image compression using bulk optimizer. Hope it helps you out.

Wow - that's good timing! Many thanks for the help. Images now optimised and site running faster.

I'm glad it helped you out.

Hey Michael,

Seeing that you have already received great advice, I can only add this tidbit of information... and that is where to find the training. See screen print below...

Hope you find this helpful.

Hry Triblu,

Many thanks for your reply - I did do a search on WA before and found Gimp training, but it didnt show it affecting the whole site and was 2016. I should have gone a bit further down the list!

Most optimization plugins will go through your media library and compress what you’ve already uploaded.

Hi Ericcantu,

That's a relief - I remember when I first realized I needed to resize my images to fit different uses... it took days and my site was smaller then.

Hey there,

I've done this in the past using the EWWW plugin. Their API (inexpensive) allows lossless. I used it on one of my sites and it handled over 40,000 uploaded images. Hope this helps :-)

Many thanks - I'll go ahead an give it a spin. I typed the question in google and got nowhere - so relieved we have the WA community!

Hi All,

I'm having a dilemma about a couple of comments from people outside of WA in the comments box on my wordpress pages. In short the grammar is some distance short

Hi Thank you all for your kind and informed responses! To give you an example, one was a technology website (not a very professional one) that left a comment offering me the chance to do a guest post with links etc. However, on checking it out, I would have to pay $45 to submit the post for their consideration. The site has no following and only 2 other people have done the same. As my site is healthcare related, it's very difficult to see the relevance. I think they were just mass-commenting for business.

I was going to delete the offer part and just leave the 'nice site' bit, but then I thought 'what if google penalizes my site for altering comments after they've been left'. The interaction is great, but I don't want to shoot myself in the foot!

If it seems like a sincere comment and I can tell what they meant, I might change it just a little bit to be more clear.

If it's an honest comment but I'm not sure what they meant, I'll reply indicating what I'm unsure about and hope that they return to clarify. I feel that if others see that, it shows my willingness to interact.

If it's clearly intended to be a spam comment to post their link and it's direct to Wordpress (not through WA), I'll remove their link and write whatever comment I want to write in place of the spam. Then I'll reply to myself. This might not be the most ethical path. It seems kinda gray but if it's really a spam comment, then they get what they get.

Hey Michael,

What I had to do ONCE with one person's comments (there were 5 or 6 separate comments made, one right after the other) was to take 5 of the 6 comments, and I copied an pasted those in proper order, below the body of the first comment.

This commenter was so passionate about the topic that I just had to keep his comment, plus it added to my content... and, his grammar was very bad, though understandable by the many who text constantly today. I purposely did NOT touch his grammar in any way shape of form, as it provides a truer image into this persons character.

Hope this helps you.

Interesting and it would be nice to know the end results

I have made some minor changes to comments but, I have never changed the person comment totally even if it didn't make sense.

Well, I have never tried to change a person comment because naturally, I don't expect everyone comment to be perfect on my blog but, I do want them to make sense.

Now, if it makes no sense at all it could be spam, which I have experienced, and per the community I ended up deleting that comment.

I have made adjustments to the because, at one point, I thought that was suggestion in the training but,i can't remember, it's bee a while.

If someone is asking a sincere question and possibly waiting on your response and you change the question completely then they're obviously going to notice and you're going to lose all credibility with them.

That's not something you want to make a habit of.

But if all you're doing is correcting grammar there's nothing wrong with that at all.

You're in charge. Don't sweat it :)

Hi All,

I use the same background photo (faded out a bit) at the top of every page as part of my branding strategy and also use mini photos down the right-hand column of

Images are not designated as duplicated content

Thank you - that's definitely put my mind at rest!

There's nothing wrong with having the same photo on your site multiple times. :) Don't worry about it.

Thank you for your reassurance - I'll move forward with adding more content instead of worrying about the images. Much appreciated,

Yes - really helpful thanks. Looking forward to getting some affiliate links on my pages now I've 30+ pages to display.

Hi - Amazon itself has a tool called OneLink which automatically directs customers to the correct country. You need to have an affiliate account with both Amazon sites.

Brilliant - thank you so much for your help! I hoped there would be a simple answer and it sounds like there is. Many thanks!
