You Tube Videos and How to get Maximum Exposure out of them!

I have quite a bit of experience on the You Tube, having built up my views to approx 250K plus nearly 900 subscribers, so I feel I should let you know of a few little hidden secrets to make sure you get your videos watched and increase your viewing time.

1. Bounce rate

A bounce rate also happens on your videos, very much like when you see your Google Analytics and you have a high bounce rate, the way it works with YouTube is that they look at what your viewers are doing and how much engagement you have with them. So the way it works is that you have to keep your viewers watching your videos for more that 8 seconds, if they stop watching the video for under 8 seconds then you are penalised by YouTube IE with a 'High Bounce Rate' - so to combat this hurdle all you need to add to your video is an intro, this could be graphics or music whatever rocks your boat! I have added intro's to all my videos that last for approx 20 seconds and they are engaging and I keep them hanging on for the actual content, however I also have my intro's because of branding etc but that is another matter.

So to summarise, keep your viewers watching your videos for more than 8 seconds improves your bounce rate, You Tube then sends you more viewers or keeps you in the list for your particular keyword so its a win win, so use the 8 second rule of keeping them engaged.

2. Naming of your 'raw' video file

What I mean by this is to name your raw file the same as your keyword, so if your keyword/s is "How to get more views on YouTube", so when you have finished editing and finalised your video then before you upload it to YouTube name your raw file the same as your search term or terms. YouTube like this and a lot of people overlook it.

3. Tags in your videos

Many many people over look this part or they simply over kill it when they are 'tagging' their videos on YouTube! To explain this is simple, maximum 12 to 15 tags for your videos, if you can do with less then go for it but 12 to 15 should be your maximum. So the best way to do this is to load all your videos with similar tags IE How to Build a wall, How to Erect a wall, How to design a wall, How to render a wall etc etc, you can try single words if your niche permits but that is not always the case, longer tail words are better, very similar to all the search engines.

I did not want to go into too much depth with my first post on this subject, but depending on the responses etc I can also add a lot more to the above.

Happy reading and if I can assist please let me know.

Regards,

Michael

This was very helpful.
Thanks.

Hi Michael. Each of these three points are valuable and actionable. Thank you. Janelle.

Excellent information... I can attest to each point!!!! Did you stick with Adsense or can you recommend a higher paying advertiser?

Hi There, I have just stuck with Adsense for the videos, but have gained more traffic by using the annotations in the videos because I can now actually embed my URL them.

Well thank ya' for the info Michael... I've never played around with annotations but after checking it out a little, I'm definitely going to have to experiment a little and see if I can grab a little more traffic using them! Thanks again!!!
