Jam that Scam

This is my idea of quality content, I wrote this myself without any help but I would like some feedback.

Scam World

Have you been ripped off?

Have you, in good faith, spent your hard earned money on something that promised a good return only to find out that it wasn't real?

Are you still hopeful of finding a way to earn a decent living without killing yourself?

If you answered YES to any of these questions you have come to the right place. But before we get into that let's take a look at what brought you here in the first place.

The Risk Factor

You my friend are a gambler. Maybe you haven't considered yourself to be, but you really are. Most people in this world at one time or another have made a gamble. I did and it was always on something that cost me money, time, or resources. The sad fact is I got little or nothing in return.

If you are still reading this then you know exactly what I mean. We like to take a risk, there is an adrenaline rush associated with doing something risky or dangerous. I have tried several "Get Rich Quick" schemes over the years but I never got rich. Instead, I got fleeced.., conned.., and ripped off. I don't particularly like admitting that but it is the truth.

Does that sound familiar? It should, it is a common hook to draw you into believing that a person is genuine and sincere. Risk takers like us are susceptible to believing such lines because deep down, we want something for nothing. My friend...there ain't no such thing as a FREE LUNCH. You are going to pay your own bills one way or the other and you may as well settle that in your own mind and spirit right now.

It doesn't matter if you start your own business like an Auto repair shop, some other traditional business or make an investment in creating your own Internet marketing niche. There is always going to be an element of risk and there is always going to be a cost. The only question is, are you willing to pay the cost to be successful?

Most people harbor the dream of working for themselves (the American Dream) but lack the experience or education to make it a success so they never even try. The fear of failure, or the fear of ridicule from family or friends or a healthy fear of getting scammed keep them from stepping out into deep water and swimming with the sharks.

The fact remains that there are sharks, big ones, with large gnarly teeth ready to chew you up and swallow you. So how do you avoid them? How do keep from being eaten alive? If you stay with me here I can help prevent that from happening.

Danger, Danger, Danger. Four tips on detecting a scam

I had a friend many years ago who was a bank teller. He warned me one day that the bank had been seeing a lot of high quality, counterfeit $20.oo dollar bills. I asked him how he was able to tell the real ones from the fake. At the time there were no embedded strips or other technological ways of determining if a bill was real or not. He told me something that I would never have guessed. He said, "The bank makes us study real bills. We get so familiar with the real thing that when a fake comes along something about it sets off an alarm in our subconscious."

Tip Number One;

Learn what the real deal looks like. Do some research, find some tried and true businesses and study them. Check out some web sites that you know are legitimate and see what they look like. Get familiar with what the real thing is and you'll be safer when you choose your own way to go.

Tip Number Two;

If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Yes you've heard that one before, but the reality is that it's true. Someone promising to make you rich overnight has only one thing in mind. To separate you from your hard earned money. A real business opportunity will tell you straight up that it is going to take dedication, commitment and time to achieve your goals.

Tip Number Three;

Here's one that should have your self preservation instincts screaming. "Just send us X amount of money and we guarantee that you will be a success in no time at all." In the first place no one can guarantee you success. They can offer you the best opportunity in the world but if you don't act on it, manage it properly and devote your time to making it happen.., well, it just isn't going to happen. Over the top, unrealistic promises of wealth and success should tell you something. Secondly..,if it's such a great deal why do they want money up front? Ask yourself a couple of simple questions...Would you buy a car without test driving it first, and would you buy that car without looking under the hood?

Tip Number Four;

Look for validation. Is the business accredited and if so where? What kind of record do they have? Is there a history of dissatisfied customers and complaints? One thing I have discovered is that everyone leaves a trail. A good business, a reputable business will be able to show a good track record and indeed, will want you to check them out.

These are just a few common sense tips that should help you determine whether or not a business offering is worth your time and investment. There are many others, but if you use just these four you are much less likely to get got.

Well written, Michael. I especially like your friendly, easy-going style. I think it's very effective and readers will appreciate it. One suggestion: For the tips, use colons instead of semicolons. Otherwise, excellent article. Keep them coming.

Thank you Joshua. I appreciate your advice. I am always willing to listen and to learn. It's really good to have someone with your background to help me along. If I can be of service to you in some way let me know, but I have a feeling you will be much more help to me than I will be to you. :) Still, I'm here if you have a question or some more of those helpful hints. :)

Thanks ScaredSilly, I kept it low key low tech for the newbie. I want the site to be clean, functional and informative. That is what I'm shooting for. If I build a rapport with the reader then they will have a small sense of duty to read the rest. I hope :)
