Plug it in! Plug it in!
A friend on FB shared this image yesterday and it got me thinking ...
I've had to play around with different themes, settings and yes! Plugins to get my website up to par with my vision. Of these, I think the Plugins are the most important tool.
Whether you want people to register on your site or create a newsletter, check your spelling or SEO opportunities, there are a BUNCH of Plugins available to fit your needs and style. You do have to consider whether they are compatible with your theme, so it may take a few tries before you settle on the one that works best for you.
That being said, someone asked me yesterday if I could make a recommendation for one, and I was glad to help! So, I thought there might be a few more suggestions to make, and then I have a request :) BTW - (I've settled on using the Agama theme)
Here are some helpful Plugins I've discovered so far:
Ad Inserter - works well with Google Ad Sense, allows you to set where you want the ads to appear on your pages and posts
Advanced Ads - allows to create ads yourself for specific items
All-in-One Event Calendar by Time.ly: the calendar itself is pretty vanilla unless you upgrade but the functionality for scheduling events is remarkable
Amazon Associates Link Builder - this is a MUST have for anyone working with Amazon, I found it by accident and I think it's pretty new but OMG this thing is awesome!
Ultimate Member - creates the registration feature for your site, sends out an email upon registration that is super easy to configure
WP Spell Check - proofreading and grammar checking across all pages on your site to help anyone who's first language is not English (I am French-Canadian, I know it's hard to change gears eh?!)
I hope this helps anyone who is frustrated as to why their site is not working the way they want it to ;)
Now, I could use some recommendations myself!
Pricing tables - I'm using Easy Pricing Tables by FatCat Apps :( I'm not impressed. I want something a bit more colorful without having to pay for the upgrades. It took me 5 hours to format a table for comparing 3 products for my first product review. I need something more efficient because I have a ton of ideas for product reviews. Any ideas are welcome!
Ad Sense utilities - I'm running Better Analytics, Framework All for Adsense, Google Analytics by MonsterInsight, and Speed Sense for Adsense. I think I got a little click happy and I'm not sure if I really need all these. Help?!
