WARNING: Don't Kill Your Dog With Thanksgiving Kindness!

I apologize for that title, it's awful! I just really wanted to get every dog owners attention. This is so, so important. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving for us here in the United States. Hopefully, you will have all your family with you on this very special and wonderful day.

It's our national " Eat Until We Pop Day". Sadly, to many Canine Veterinarians it is known as National Canine Pancreatitis Day!!

Our dogs pancreas cannot handle the Fat in our rich Thanksgiving Meal. The Turkey (especially the skin), is very high in fat. As is, the Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes (Butter & Sour Cream), Onions (They Are Toxic to Dogs), Garlic Bread, Anything with Butter. Just to name a few. I wouldn't recommend giving them any Pies or Sweets either.

I learned about Pancreatitis the hard way many years ago. Someone had purchased a large pizza and was throwing tiny bits of it to my Australian Cattle Dog Martha (the one in my profile picture), while we were at the stables. Within a few hours Martha was deathly ill and I was a complete wreck with worry. Her vet did not know if she would make it. Finally, after 48 hours at the vet and round the clock care, she pulled through. She spent the rest of her life on a highly restricted and very expensive diet. I could have killed my own dog! Please Do Not Let this happen to you and your best friend.

So, I write this today in Hopes that IF just one person reads this and is Not aware of the dangers of Thanksgiving or any overly rich food is to our 4 legged family members, it will be well worth it to me.

So, when your dog starts begging you tomorrow with those big brown eyes, just remember, you could be killing him with kindness. Just say NO.
