Cents VS Dollars We Need To Stop Selling Ourselves Short
Hello Everyone,
As I work to upscale and build by Publishing Business, I see I have made some Mindset errors in the Past.
First, I would like to thank Tony Robbins again for my new Mindset shift. Thanks Tony!
I have 1, 660+ ebook/book titles published, many of them are public domain titles.
Anyone can publish public domain titles so there can be a lot of competition on Amazon and previously I was more focused on "pricing wars" to get sales on many of my titles.
With my Mindset shift, here is where my thinking is now.
I can see even the exact same public domain title at a higher price can still sell especially using Amazon Ads.
Many of my titles are Catholic related. There are 2 fairly good size Catholic publishers that also use public domain content as part of their listings. They have been in business for many years.
They don't rely on Amazon. They have their own marketing strategies direct to consumers.
I need to do the same.
I also need to revise many of my book covers on Amazon and I can still send those books from Amazon to my customers.
I looked at the titles I have at Lightning Source and I am repricing many of them based on what I see these other 2 Catholic publishers doing. I should be able to see results in 2 to 3 months and see it the results are positive or negative. I suspect the gross income will rise.
Those titles are also sold via my website although sales are infrequent.
I need to start mastering marketing if I really want to grow my publishing business.
I find this exciting and also very interesting seeing things from a different perspective.
I hope I can report later this year of increased revenue beyond even what Amazon Ads are providing.
I am not quite at the place where I can hire VA's to help me, but it will be nice when I can do so.
So my suggestion is please do not sell yourself short.
You deserve to be paid what you are worth and its often much more than you think.

Yes. Also, I'm not sure about anywhere else but here in the West our culture tells us that we should somehow be ashamed of being successful and living a life based on that success. It's ridiculous.
It's inspiring to see what you're doing, Mel.
Really enjoyed reading this, Mel.
It’s a great reminder that how we position and market our work matters just as much as the work itself.
Thanks for sharing this perspective!
Love this perspective, Mel.
Knowing your value and pricing accordingly is a huge step forward.
Your experience and catalog speak for themselves.
Excited to see where this new approach takes you
Thanks for your thoughts on pricing in this part of the publishing world. I am finding that merely editing a book is time consuming and almost like taking a dusty ignored item from a garage sale and polishing and cleaning it up, but expected to sell it for mere pennies!
I have taken an ignored book title, and made it an interesting read that is great entertainment.
Yes, marketing is important to call attention to what I have done.
Your posts on the results of your ad campaigns are encouraging and enlightening.
Thanks for sharing,
Sami

This is such an inspiring mindset shift, Mel.
You’re absolutely right pricing yourself too low can undervalue your work and your potential. The fact that you’re rethinking your strategy, improving your covers, and planning direct marketing beyond Amazon is powerful.
It’s also a great reminder that even public domain content can still earn strong sales with the right positioning and marketing.
Thank you for sharing your journey and encouraging everyone not to sell themselves short. You deserve to be paid what you’re worth!
