Motivation What Keeps Me Motivated

How do you guys stay motivated? I like most people sometimes find it hard to get back into the groove of things once I take a break. Or sometimes, I get frustrated because I may not understand something and I get a bit discouraged and that forces me to take a step back to collect myself.

So how do I personally stay motivated? I think about why I decided to join Wealthy Affiliate in the first place. Everyone has their reason why. However in the midst of frustration and blocks, it can sometimes be easy to forget that reason.

I wake up every day in the comfort of a bed I didn't buy, in the comfy clothes I didn't buy, under the warm roof I also didn't buy. I then make my way down the stairs and into the kitchen I also didn't buy to make myself breakfast I didn't buy. It all sounds silly I know, but that means so much to me. The older I get the more I realize things actually cost money. I witness some of my friends in their early 20's trying to move out of their parents houses and survive on their own. After attempting to move out on my own I experienced what people call a "wake up call."

This wake up call was trigger by my need for a simple appliance. I needed a lamp. Did you know lamps were expensive? I didn't. I have been so blessed by my parents that it never crossed my mind to think about what things cost. I made my way down the aisle of the local Walmart, and I found that lamps could be anywhere between 15 to more than 100 dollars! I then stood there, frozen, as I thought about how many lamps were in my parents house that I never noticed to be something of so much value until that very moment.

I knew my whole life that my parents were hard workers. My whole life for as long as I can remember, my parents stressed the importance of a higher education and how to budget money and live within our means, etc etc. Things that I always listened to but never UNDERSTOOD...until that moment. That is my motivation. To buy a lamp and any other appliance I need without feeling the shock of the price. To be able to give back to my parents who have given me more than I deserve. To lessen the burden of tuition on my parents, by paying for it on my own. To make my parents proud that all their hard work, and all their wise words have influenced me to make myself into someone that could stand her own. Someone they could be proud of. Someone I could be proud of.

Family!! Regardless how bad or good they are, they are always behind your motivational point. I always thought my mother hated me when she made me take responsibility at a young age. Well, my dad was never there, to begin with. So, it took me some time to understand what my mother was trying to do. The good thing is that at last, I did. I am proud of her now because I know she could have spoiled me but then, it wouldn't have helped me in the long run. I would say the lamps helped you realize your motivation, which is to make your parents proud, as well as find means of showing gratitude to them. That's an interesting story you wrote up there. I hope and wish you all the best in making parents and yourself proud.
Cheers!

Thank you so much Shep! I used to hate my parents too for being so strict with me, but as we both learned, they did it out of love. I am sure your mother is already very proud of that man you have become! Thank you so much for your kind words and I wish you well too on your journey here! :)

My motivation is STILL my family and all of the grandkids and the needs that are still very real and getting more expensive every day.

I guess I am on them other side of what you are feeling, But because I a unable to physically work, anymore, there is more pressure, hence more motivation!

Yes it is truly scary how the cost of everything seems to be skyrocketing faster than people can afford it. It seems like these days if you aren't making money while you are sleeping, you will always struggle. :(

Being motivated is a tough job and if the journey is long, motivation gets more fragile.

I can relate to what you are feeling. It happens to me all the time.

I know, that only have I been never lost the motivation in several things I wanted and even started to do, I would have been at a different place altogether.

I have realized something over the last few months, though. Motivation really comes with accomplishments and vice versa.

You need to tell your heart and mind about the success you achieve every day and because it’s not easy to cheat ourselves, you have to make an effort to ACTUALLY do something towards the goal, maybe not a lot but a tiny step that could help you grow.

But yes, there will be times, when you won’t be able to take those tiny steps too and no matter what you think or tell yourself, it just won’t work.

So, what to do?

Motivation pushes you, but if you have stopped because there’s no motivation; it’s time to IGNITE the Engine again!

Get Tired. Take a Deep Nap. Take a Shower. Grab a Coffee. Start Again.

But this time, start with something new, something that also helps you in your journey but is different from why you had stopped.

And once you have enough accomplishments to tell and make your heart and mind happy, go back and do that unfinished task or where you had left!

I don’t even know if this makes any sense but I just couldn’t stop typing after reading your post. LOL ;)

Yes it does make complete sense! And I totally understand what you are saying and where you are coming from :), a lot of times I do take a bubble bath or make some tea and walk around before sitting down and trying to start again. And you are right that motivation does come from accomplishments! When I saw myself rank up I couldn't contain the fire within me that wanted to BLAST through the whole course and get my website fully functional in record time haha, I loved reading your post :) lol thank you

I like your last paragraph, really motivating and eye opening.

I'm doing this cuz I wanna be able to order food without looking at the price, just saying :|

Yes so much yummy foods in the world to try!! hahaha
