How difficult is it to learn how to do this? Do we need to know how to do coding?
Agree with Marcel. It's not really necessary. The Visual editor is fairly intuitive and nearly a WYSIWYG interface. Does it help to know some basic HTML? Well, sure. It can. I learned HTML way before there were editors around. So, I know what the code does. But, learning the < image > than a few basic other coding features can be done very quickly. But, I rarely use them.
One thing that I find comes in handy for me is knowing a bit of CSS. Most themes give you a field for custom CSS. This allows you to modify the appearance of specific elements on the page. It is a more advanced topic, but once you start looking into it you may find it is easier than you first thought - and quite useful in certain situations!
You do not need to know how to do coding. If you want you can pick up tidbits of that along the way. With WordPress you have a platform to work with that takes care of all the basic coding for you!

I like the question and the answers very much! Coding is not something I was bargaining for in building my websites. There is so much else that IS totally necessary like design, SEO, good writing, promotion and on and on. Thanks for the information!
