Shawshank Pessimism-Locked Up for Criminal Cynicism

It is indeed a tragedy to be physically free yet imprisoned, locked up in your own negative thoughts and feelings. All of this negativity has a way of cancelling out all of the good and prosperous blessings we receive in our lives. In other words, when it comes to giving and receiving, I don't want to be another Captain Byron Hadley from the movie, The Shawshank Redemption. This guy was allergic to prosperity and eventually came to a bad end. Just in case you've never read the book or have never seen the movie, let me give you a brief synopsis of the Captain Hadley inheritance scene:
After Hadley discovers he is coming into a sizable inheritance, he complains instead rejoices. He begins on a tirade about all of the problems he knows this money is going to bring into his life. (Side note: Perhaps this was his way of bragging about the money to his co-workers without incurring their jealousy and resentment. But in any instance, it was a bad move on his part.)
You see, I've discovered that the Universe doesn't really take our passive-aggressive reasoning, rationales, or sense of humor into consideration. When we speak or think negatively about our own prosperity, the Universe simply gives us what we are focusing on the most. The prosperous event was received with cynicism, anxiety, and negativity so that is what the inheritance will bring (mo' money, mo' problems).
For the past few months, I've been diligently trying to improve my overall perception of life and my attitude about life, especially in the area of prosperity. Giving has never been a problem for me but receiving has been. I've been suffering from the Hadley Syndrome for years. But not to worry, I'm breaking free of it, but I realized this week that I must be ever vigilant and on my guard to ward-off the negative thoughts and attitudes that beset me whenever prosperity comes my way. This week I received about three very positive and beneficial messages about some financial concerns. I am really being blessed and highly favored. When I received the third message of prosperity, I was at my job, and the bearer of the good news was my co-worker and friend. When she told me about the favorable financial decisions that had been made, something in me just turned negative. I began to feel doubt, anxiety, resentment (at how blessing was being given to me and who was involved in the decision-making process, etc.), and a healthy amount of cynicism. The reply I gave to my co-worker/friend, who by the way was very happy to report our good fortune, was sarcastic and was laced with skepticism and suspicion. I continued working for about an hour with this dark cloud hanging over my head until it dawned on me that I was making a fool of myself and blocking my own blessing. I repented to my co-worker/friend, and I began working with renewed vigor on my ability to receive blessings and prosperity in the right spirit. I needed to receive this good news with thanksgiving and with praise. I needed to feel good and send out positive vibes which would let the Universe know that financial abundance feels good to me, and I am happy to invite more of it into my life. I am happy to receive monetary increase because it lightens my burdens and brings me peace and joy. I am very grateful for all things that are beneficial to me.

I'm a huge believer in the Law of Attraction and so what you say is very true - we need to be open and believe that we are worthy of abundance :)
I've been engaged in the process of breaking through some of my internal barriers, negative belief systems and my mindset (what I focus on). I'm coming along. I need positive people in my life. That's part of the reason I joined WA. Thanks for the confirmation that I'm on the right track. :-)
