Hi there !
I am a mum and part- time university lecturer/academic skills tutor and course coordinator living in Cork, Ireland. I am currently in the last stages of writing up my PhD about a project that I head up which has reintroduced a lost Irish tradition of lament called 'keening' as a modern mental health tool around loss, grief and trauma and other emotional life transitions such as divorce, miscarriages, heartbreak etc.
I also am very interested in fermentation and the power of a healthy microbiome as the new 'medicine' for the future of our bodies and our mental health and the planet. I am also into herbal and plant medicine and hedgerow medicine and grow as much of my own veg and herbs as possible, cheaply and in found objects rather than going out buying expensive pots or other equipment. I am an environmentalist and try to live my life without damaging the natural environment as possible, but I get very upset at the decimation of the natural world around me year in year our with intensive mono-culture farming practices which destroys the integrity of the soil and damages wildlife and biodiversity and which particularly damages the hedgerows with all of their valuable medicine.
I am also a passionate advocate of what I call 'present parenting'. I believe that all governments should support a parent to be able to stay at home with their children to raise them rather than handing them over to childminders or creches from when they are very young, for long days and weeks and years on end because they need to go out to work 9-5, five days a week which has become the norm so that people can keep a roof over their heads. Children who feel secure and confident, who grow up without major mental health issues (often born of abandonment and lack of affection form a main carer in their first few years of life and there is academically proven evidence for this) are the future of this planet, and it is very important that we nurture them in order to show them how to nurture the future generations and in turn, the world.
I have many other interest including Classic Cars (I own a beautiful 1967 Austin Cambridge), camping and the outdoor life, gardening, pets (I have a six cat (3 feral) and one dog 'family'). I am vegan so I care passionately for ALL animals and their welfare (not just the cuddly ones!) and feel a moral duty to ensure that in my time on this planet, that I do not consciously contribute to the demand for the skin hair, body parts or secretions or ovum (dairy and eggs) of any animal, which has led to the cruel intensive farming culture that we now live with and which is destroying our planet and the worlds and lives of indigenous people and other animals and plant life. I am not in any way a perfect vegan and there are areas that I know I slip up on, but at least I am trying. I am not involved in activism (mostly because I don't have the time ) but try to create awareness by example.
I am very excited to be part of this training program and to learn more about how to have other income streams in areas that I have interests above.

Hi Marian,
Firstly, nice to meet you and I'm sure with your academic background and many interests, you'll do well with WA.
I would go back to the earliest site content tutorials just to check. But basically with WA the Site Content tool is the best way to write new posts or pages before you publish them. However, once published you will need to make any changes in Wordpress. Think of Site Content as a pre-publish tool. I don't think that changes after publishing are picked up by Site Content, hence the confusion.
To answer your question on wher to store images, I find it best to have them stored in files on my computer and then upload them to Site Content as I want to add them to my site.
You can add them later in Wordpress too after the post is published.
Not sure if this helps...I'm relatively new here myself and just had a few months off to deal with non-productive stuff!

Hi Adrian
Nice to meet you too and thank you for your advice. Yes it is a bit confusing. I find that I'm jumping in and out of Wordpress to add pics in Site Content because the first few pages of content have no pictures and I wrote them all in WordPress not Site Content.
I'm getting confused with menus and what should be a post and what should be a page.
Then yesterday I tried adding a theme but I've lost my side menu and don't know how to go back to the original screen with no theme! . Maybe I jumped the gun a bit with doing that just yet.
Anyway I'll keep working away on the lessons and hope I can work it out!
Thanks again for your help!
Best wishes
Marian

Your content won't appear on the WA site content unless your write it there. You can write either on WP or site content. If you write on site content, then click on publish, it will appear both on site content and on your WP site. If you choose to write directly to WP it won't be on site content.
Either way, editing after publishing can be done only on your website (WP).
I hope that helps--let me know if you need more help.

Hi again Marian,
I find if I get stuck it's worth going back to the training. The emphasis in the early tutorials is on creating good content as posts. But you'll learn later on about the differences between pages and posts and it's really simple to convert one to the other...so don't worry too much about it at this stage.
The same with menus and themes. As you create more content you'll find you regularly change what's under each menu, or create new ones. So don't worry too much about it. Content is the key.

What you do in Worpress is not reflected in the site content of WA. If you edit something in WordPress the same article will look different in the site content feature as it is not connected any more.
You can use the bucket function in site content to arrange your articles there into what has been published on your page or is just a draft which has been edited further in WordPress. The bucket function is like a folder in windows explorer on a PC.
You can also delete what you have written in site content as soon as it is published to your WordPress site, to keep site content a little bit tidier.
Regarding pictures, I have them both on my computer and Google photos. I only upload them when needed when writing an article.
I hope this helps a bit.

Hello all
Thank to everyone who has followed me. I am sorry that I havent maybe text everyone back, I get a bit distracted by all the conversations going on and looking at peoples profiles and I still am not sure why people are following me!
So, latest update is that typically since I signed up for premium, life events have taken over in that my father has been in hospital and I have needed to more or less drop everything. He is home now though and although I am still on call if needed, I am hoping to delve further into the training in the next few days, I don't want to lose the momentum. I know this happens as I try to write some academic work every day also towards my PhD and that gets interrupted too often also.
I still don't really know what I am doing re the website building but very grateful for the step by step lessons (I am on the wordsearch lesson which looks complicated!) ALso I see there is a limit of a 100 searches and then you have to pay for more is that right or have I it all wrong? I was looking on my phone at the time.
Anyway, just a quick update and thank you to those who have offered help and support.
