Week 6: Another Tough Week

In the pursuit of building an online business, I carry on with the work I do out in the real world. The past couple of weeks have been a setback. Office drama is never fun, and it is particularly maddening when someone blows things out of proportion and quits on the spot. In the end, it was a good thing for this person to part ways, but it leaves a massive hole that needs to be filled. This leads to more time doing a job I shouldn't have to do, and less time getting to do what I want to do.

No posts were published last week. I spent most of my waking hours doing damage control. The good news is that I set aside some time to watch training videos, which helped further my understanding of building an online business. In this process, I am learning how to be a better writer. I'm also learning to let go and trust the process. I know this takes time.

I stand at seven posts published with seven drafts to complete. My goal is to hit fifteen by the end of the month. With all the extra work that has to be done around the office, we'll see if I get it done. Once I get fifteen, I'll be looking into new affiliate programs.

If you are new, how are things going for you? If you are a veteran, how long did it take to get significant traffic to your site (and what in your mind is significant)? I'd love to hear how all of you are progressing.

I did the opposite and it was a big mistake. My goal was 100 posts in 100 days. I almost did it, but honestly the blog was trash. All the posts are ranking on page 6 or higher of google.

I walked away from it and restarted. I did about 50 posts in 6 months and all of my posts rank on page 1 and 2. Of course there are problems with me a google right now, but I have confidence in my writing.

Wow. 100 posts in 100 days is ambitious. What sort of problems are you having with Google? I'm still new at understanding Google and search engine rankings.

Basically nothing de indexed no drop in rankings on my posts but I am only seeing 1-2 impressions a day. That’s the number of times my pages appear in searches. Used to be well over 100

Life can definitely get in the way of what we are trying to achieve here Jesse!

Just keep on learning and doing as much as you can with what time you have my friend.....

Thanks. I'll get there eventually. It's just disheartening when plans get derailed by things beyond my control. In my first blog post, I mentioned I do these posts weekly to share my journey but also to provide a sense of self-accountability. It also helps to process things "out loud" rather than internally. Thanks for the encouragement.

It can be disheartening at times Jesse...

And that is a great idea in order to process things out loud!

You're most welcome my friend and keep on keeping on! :-)

Don’t stress yourself over this. Take your time and work thru it.

I know. It's going to work eventually. I keep reminding myself the work I do today will be working for me from this point forward. I just wish I was a little further along than I am.

I hear you. I work my regular (irregular) job seven days a week and it is very frustrating to have to do someone else's work or redo their work because it's easier to do it yourself than to try to show them what they did incorrectly.

I would love to spend the 10 hours a day that I work at my other job, instead on my own business. I get it. Now rebuilding my sites, it has been especially hard. I'm very impatient and want traffic NOW. But it is taking time and I am learning more about marketing my brand so people will hopefully be attracted to my sites and ... well, you know.

Just keep on going. Don't give up and all those other "happy" phrases. Truly, I believe if you keep going you will succeed.

Best wishes. I am following you. If you want to follow back, we can encourage each other! :)

Thanks Karin. Good to meet you.

I just finished my 4th week. It is a whole new learning curve for me, I am a bookkeeper by trade and certainly haven't done much writing. I am plugging along. Got a message this morning from Google saying they started collecting Google Search impressions for my website in Search Console!

That's really good news! Stick with it! Consistency will have its payday. I have not been as consistent as I needed to be during my time here at WA. I am being more consistent and really engaged with my Hub. I have more excitement than ever on what I can accomplish!
It's great news about your website and Google!

That's cool! You're one step further!
