Perfection is a dream
So I went to a Financial Education seminar the other weekend. It was really eye-opening and made me realise there's some things that have really been holding me back from achieving bigger things in my life. I thought it would be good to share this with the community here.
One of the things is that successful people have realised that perfect does not exist. The example given was the iPhone. When the iPhone was released, was it perfect? No. But they released it anyway. Then came the iPhone 2. Was that perfect? No. But they released it anyway, and so forth and so forth. Each time Apple released a new model, there would no doubt be updates to the previous model, probably even from consumer suggestions. It's still not even perfect now, but if they waited for it to be perfect, it never would have been released!
A couple of quotes from the weekend about this were "Perfectionism is the lowest standard, a justification & cop-out for not getting things done sooner" and "For those of us that chase perfection, you are chasing an elusive dream".
These quotes really hit home for me personally. For far too long I have been not willing to try things because "I'm not perfect at it yet" or "I just want to understand it a bit better first". I still find myself doing it now, even with setting up a website!! I'm wanting to find the perfect niche... sounds so silly... because I KNOW that it's never going to happen!
The point is to try it and see what happens. If it works, fantastic. If it doesn't, even better! Because now you have a chance to learn from what mistakes you have made (and what worked) and try again. There's always something to learn from mistakes that are made, but you have to be willing to try first.

That was so right on Marty. Even people like Bill Gates started off somewhere, and I'm sure he made plenty of mistakes along the way. This is so true. Why even start something if your afraid you are going to make a mistake? This similar to what I told my friend the other day who I believe is more talented than me. I told him that I starting this website and it will be monetized, yet he has yet to monetize any of his ideas. I hope I opened his eyes that day. Thanks for sharing Marty!
Thanks for your comment Kendall :) You know, one of the biggest things I realised that I haven't done because I was not perfect was teach music... it really dawned on me when I heard the guy giving this talk that all this time I've been unwilling to share what I've learnt because I'm not perfect at what I do.... but my teachers were never perfect!!!! So frustrating... I've had numerous friends suggest I teach music, but I've always knocked them back as "I'm not perfect". Glad it was helpful to you and motivates you to keep going :D
