I finished level 2 of the certification course some time ago. Since I wasn't producing any traffic at all I figured I would wait before continuing to level 3 until this goes be
Simply put... Keep hammering on your training and make sure you do all of the tasks... Persistent indeed pays off!
Continue the training. And when you are done with the training, start over with the training. You will find that you have missed some stuff and can learn even more.
Monetization however isn't your number 1 priority, so even though you learn about it in those levels, you don't need to apply it to your site straight away. Afterall you need first traffic before you can sell something.

I would continue with the training and set up your website for monetization. As you build your content and link it with social media your traffic will grow.

If it helps, I am continuing with certification regardless of poor ranking of my site. Even if I had to go over all lessons again it would not be waste of time.
What I keep hearing and what I hope is true is that persistence
will eventually pay off.

I added a sitemap to my Google Webmaster Tools like a month ago using the All in One SEO plugin and everything worked fine. I just noticed an error with it while checking out m
I had a similar issue a while back and wrote a blog on it:
