1 Month Update
OK so I'm a little late. I joined the WA community on the 23rd of July and I'm just getting around to this update. Been busy but better late than never.
How I got here
I moved to the USA from the Caribbean in late October 2018. Spent the first few months settling in and organizing schools etc. Started looking around for work in early 2019 and decided that I would look at doing something completely different and work from home. No more brick and mortar business, overheads, dealing with employees etc.
Heard about affiliate marketing from a friend and looked into it and started dabbling in it. The problem with dabbling is that you do not know what you do not know. As a result I got overwhelmed, confused and frustrated. Time to get help from the experts. Tried some so called "experts" and suffered with shiny object syndrome (SOS) for a while. Learned some stuff but couldn't keep momentum. Thought for a while that I was the problem as many other students seemed to be moving on and understanding the course work. So, one day as I was researching some affiliate programs to join, I stumbled across Wealthy Affiliate.
There are no mistakes in life
Being aware that I was in recovery from a bout of shiny object syndrome I nearly scrolled past. But for some reason I started reading it and clicked on the link. I was berating myself for relapsing back into SOS but there was an out. Sign up for free! Why not? What's the worst that could happen? I'd find the training poor or didn't suit me and then I would be gone. No problem.
Some guy named Kyle said I could have a functioning website in a short time. I'd been struggling with setting up my website for a while so had nothing to lose. If he could get this "techno peasant" to accomplish that, then he would have to be a magician! Well Wizard Kyle, you succeeded. I could not believe that I had a working website and some basic content within a few hours. Promising myself that this would be the last time I succumbed to SOS. I clicked the Premium sign up link and dragged the unwilling credit card out. The voice inside my head was shouting "Mistake!"
One Month Later...
Now here I am. A completely different person. Still struggling? Yes. Working now on average 6-7 hours a day 6-7 days a week? Yes. Who would have thought? What this program has done for me is give me a road map. I finally understand the route and the obstacles that I have to pass. It will take a while but I'll get there. Of that I'm certain.
Now I have 5 websites including 3 that I migrated here and rebuilt from scratch as they were so terrible. Each of these sites have some content and are all indexed in Google, Bing and Yahoo. I am adding content as I go along. At the same time going through the training and improving as I go along. Also running Social media for all the sites, but will adjust as I hope to learn more about that here too. I have done more in the last month than in the previous 19 months.
No magic. It's hard work and I'm in it for the long haul. Hopefully I can have a better report in the future for you all. Until then, keep on keeping on!
