I'm hunting for Broken Links
My non-WA blog has been running for awhile. I have recently moved it from a wordpress.com site to a self-hosted. I'm busy at the moment revamping it, and pimping it up a bit so that I can monetize it,
Part of the tidy-up has lead me to check for broken links.
Phew - there are quite a few.
I tried an online tool (http://www.brokenlinkcheck.com/) and this returned an excellent list of broken links, along with the page, and even showed in the source code where the link was. However, there was no easy way to export the list.(I even tried scraping it, but the site owners had set it up so that you had to enter a code manually before you got results - this prevented scraping with a tool such as google sheets.)
I installed a WordPress plugin, but I'm a little cautious as I have heard that this can slow the site down a lot.
Now I'm testing with an installed app called Screaming Frog...

I'll let you know how it goes...

I hope you don't end up being the "screaming frog". This is all beyond my understanding at the moment, but I'm learning as fast as I can.
Hi Genie
Haha - at the moment, I'm not the screaming from ...at the moment...
I started blogging back in 2010.And in my blog posts, I would often link to other sites that were relevant.
Now, in 2016, I'm going through all my posts (to perform a "content upgrade" -jazz up the text and images, etc). However, I am discovering that a lot of the links in the old posts are "broken" - that is, when you click on them you get an error. This is mostly because the site/post that I originally linked to, has been moved,or deleted.
Rather than click on each of the 1500 links, I'm trying to find a way that will do his automatically.
:O)
Okay, thanks for the explanation. Best wishes.
