Behind the Scenes: How I Used Claude.AI to Plan and Launch My Professional YouTube Channel

A few days ago, I shared how I launched my first YouTube channel as a practicing optometrist. What I didn't mention was the secret weapon that made the entire process possible: Claude.AI. Today, I want to pull back the curtain and show you exactly how I used artificial intelligence to plan, strategize, and execute my channel launch - so you can do the same for your niche.
If you're a Wealthy Affiliate member sitting on expertise but feeling overwhelmed by the technical aspects of content creation, this post will show you how AI can become your planning partner and execution accelerator.
Why I Turned to AI for Channel Planning
Here's the honest truth: as a practicing optometrist with 20+ years of experience, I know my field inside and out. But YouTube channel creation? That was completely foreign territory. I needed someone who could help me think through strategy, anticipate problems, and provide step-by-step guidance.
Enter Claude.AI - my AI planning partner that never gets tired, never judges my questions, and always has time for "what if" scenarios.
The Complete AI-Assisted Planning Process
Phase 1: Strategic Foundation and Niche Refinement
My Initial Approach: I started by telling Claude I wanted to create a YouTube channel about dry eye disease. Within minutes, Claude helped me realize I was thinking too narrow.
How Claude Helped:
- Expanded my vision: Suggested focusing on general eye health rather than just dry eyes
- Identified content opportunities: Mapped out dozens of potential video topics across all eye conditions
- Positioned for growth: Showed how broader focus would create more monetization opportunities
The AI Advantage: Claude immediately saw strategic opportunities I had missed, helping me avoid the common mistake of niching down too early.
Phase 2: Channel Setup and Branding
The Legal Complexity: As a New Jersey-licensed optometrist, I faced specific regulatory requirements about how I could present my credentials and disclaimers.
Claude's Problem-Solving:
- Navigation of licensing restrictions: Helped rewrite channel descriptions to comply with New Jersey regulations that prevent claiming "specialist" status
- Professional disclaimers: Drafted comprehensive legal disclaimers that protected me while maintaining credibility
- Medical ethics compliance: Ensured all content plans met both FTC and medical professional standards
Real Example - Channel Description Creation: I asked Claude to write my channel description. When I mentioned New Jersey licensing restrictions, Claude immediately adjusted the language, removing problematic terms and creating compliant copy that still conveyed expertise.
Phase 3: Technical Specifications and Optimization
The Challenge: YouTube has specific technical requirements for banners, thumbnails, and descriptions that can make or break your channel's professional appearance.
Claude's Technical Guidance:
- Exact banner dimensions: Provided specific pixel requirements (2560 x 1440) and safe viewing areas
- Canva design instructions: Step-by-step guidance for creating professional medical branding
- Character count optimization: Helped trim channel descriptions to fit YouTube's limits while maintaining all essential information
- Affiliate disclosure templates: Created FTC-compliant disclosure language that worked across multiple platforms
Phase 4: Content Strategy and Monetization Planning
Beyond Just Video Topics: Claude helped me think strategically about the entire business model, not just content creation.
Strategic Business Planning:
- Monetization pathways: Discussed multiple revenue streams including courses, consultations, and affiliate partnerships
- Content calendar: Developed systematic approach to consistent publishing
- Affiliate compliance: Created comprehensive disclosure language that works across multiple platforms and my existing Amazon Associates account
- Professional positioning: Established proper medical disclaimers and credibility framework for monetization
The Most Valuable AI Assistance: Real-Time Problem Solving
What impressed me most wasn't the initial planning - it was how Claude helped solve problems in real-time.
Example 1: The Disclaimer Space Issue When I realized my channel description was too long to include medical disclaimers, Claude immediately suggested including the medical disclaimers in individual video descriptions instead of trying to fit everything in the channel description.
Example 2: Equipment Decisions When discussing filming setup, Claude helped me optimize for my existing iPhone SE rather than pushing expensive equipment, providing specific tripod and Bluetooth remote recommendations.
Example 3: Compliance Pivots When New Jersey licensing issues arose, Claude instantly restructured my positioning to maintain authority while ensuring regulatory compliance.

The Practical Steps: How You Can Replicate This Process
Step 1: Start with Strategic Conversation
Don't ask AI to "write content." Instead, have conversations about:
- Your expertise and target audience
- Regulatory or industry-specific considerations
- Long-term business goals
- Technical limitations or challenges
Step 2: Use AI for Systematic Planning
Ask Claude to help you create:
- Content calendars with strategic topic progression
- Technical specifications for your chosen platforms
- Legal compliance frameworks for your industry
- Monetization roadmaps that fit your expertise level
Step 3: Leverage AI for Real-Time Troubleshooting
When problems arise (and they will), use AI to:
- Generate multiple solution options
- Anticipate downstream consequences of decisions
- Adapt strategies to changing circumstances
- Maintain consistency across all platform elements
Step 4: Iterate and Refine
The beauty of AI assistance is the ability to refine and improve:
- Test different approaches with AI guidance
- Get feedback on strategic decisions
- Continuously optimize based on results
The Results: What AI Planning Delivered
Time Savings: What would have taken weeks of research and planning was completed in focused sessions over a few days.
Professional Quality: My channel launched with the same level of polish as channels created by agencies.
Strategic Clarity: I avoided common beginner mistakes because AI helped me think several steps ahead.
Compliance Confidence: All legal and professional requirements were addressed before launch, not after.
Key Lessons for Fellow WA Members
AI Excels at Strategy, You Provide the Expertise: Claude couldn't diagnose dry eyes or perform eye exams, but it could help me package my 20 years of experience for digital success.
Ask Better Questions: Instead of "write me content," ask "help me think through the strategic implications of X" or "what regulatory issues should I consider for Y."
Use AI for Systematic Thinking: Your expertise + AI's systematic approach = professional results that would typically require hiring consultants.
Don't Replace Your Judgment: AI provides options and considerations. Your professional experience and industry knowledge determine the final decisions.
The Bottom Line for Your WA Business
Whether you're in real estate, finance, health, technology, or any other field, you have expertise that people need. AI can help you package that expertise professionally and systematically.
The combination of your domain knowledge and AI's strategic planning capabilities can accelerate your content creation timeline from months to weeks, while ensuring professional quality that builds trust with your audience.
Your expertise is the content. AI is your strategic planning partner.

Welldone, Mark. I'm saving this post. Very informative to return for guide.
Thanks for sharing.
Paul.
Have you checked out Claude projects? It’s a way of giving it specific documents and reusing then in different flows
I have pasted in documents, yes. Usually drafts I created that I wanted Claude to analyze and discuss. But I was not aware I could use those uploaded documents to reuse. How can I access Claude projects?
I think it’s on the paid plan
There will be a button on the left side that says “projects”.
Give it a name and description
Then start uploading documents
I even created documents in Claude and uploaded those as well

Great tips and tricks, Mark. This is one of the best ways to use AI, a smart tool. It helps to know how others are using it, especially when you share your own experience and also suggest how the community can benefit from it. I recently learned the same method of talking/chatting with AI first before asking it to write content and that helps a lot.
John
That is great John. Did you create a you tube channel? If not, just start. It is a lot of fun. It was a bit nerve racking talking into a camera the first time but it gets easier after the first one
