Professionalism and the online business

This is a subject that is close to my heart. I suppose I owe that to a man I used to work for. His training on business ethics was invaluable in shaping my outlook on doing business and dealing with clients.

We had to clean our tools like a guy in the military would clean his rifle for inspection. Obviously at the time it was really annoying, but considering that a lot of our work was done inside peoples homes, it is clear that unpacking our tools all shiny in front of the client made a good impression.

Here is where I come to the point of this post. People come online and it is as if the dynamic of business is lost or does not exist, or even worse does not apply. Somehow people get online and think they do not have to be professional anymore.

Look if you're posting on facebook in the social environment and you act like a total fool then want to run an online business that gives advice on success, you are just shooting yourself in the foot. Customers are no fools, the can search the internet, they can find you on facebook, and they can see if you are the type of person they want to do business with.

My advice - if you want to run an online business then your image online must be professional. If you are in a niche where you should not curse, the don't curse anywhere online. You will be called out on it and you will lose all credibility.

When you're dealing with clients, be polite, treat the client as always right, give great service, be professional, and you will gain a customer that will buy from you again and again. When your aim is just that one sale, you are short selling your own business potential.

Always give your best in everything you do. Write the best article you can, make your website as nice as you can, and alway over deliver when dealing with your clients. This will keep your business going when others fail.
