Google and I or is it Me?
My fourth month with WA is nearly over and I decided I would review what I have done with my website. I was on page one with Google with 2 keywords and all was rosy.
I have been writing blog posts and searching for long tailed keywords laboring under the illusion everything was on track and before long I would have a tonne of traffic visiting my website..
Everything is not OK.
Google and I do not have a seamless relationship.
I am not using Google Webmaster tools correctly. This knowledge smacked me in the face when I entered my sitemap into the appropriate tools area and up came an error report.
I caused this because I changed the site without letting Google know. One more lesson learned.
Fortunately, I have the opportunity to ask for help. I sent out an SOS and within a few hours I received a reply asking for more clarity about my problem.
The truth is I didn’t bother reading through the instructions from Google or look at the webinar on the subject in WA, which was easy to understand. I know because I watched it today. Better late than never!
At least I got the XML Sitemap Plugin onto my website correctly thanks to Kyle’s straight forward instructions.
What I have to do now is begin Progress Course 5 again and be glad I hadn’t learned an even harder lesson.
At 2:00 this afternoon I was going to throw it all in as I was feeling very sorry for myself and convinced I had chosen a lousy niche.
I know that asking questions helps others as well as me so I will be asking more and answering others when I can.
As I write this, I am feeling calmer and more responsible because I have been heard because I bothered to ask.
Thank you WA community.

I think you are doing the right things Marilyn. You are researching correctly and getting your content up. Now the spiders will come and devour all the lovely content now that your issue is resolved.
I like to update the site map manually occasionally even though it is automatically updated also.
Hi Marilyn, in what way did you change your site? I tried to add the XML site map and also got an error. Of course Google already has 65 of my URL's indexed, but I do need to add it eventually. Kim
I'm probably one of the exceptions, but I tend to stay away from the statistics. I use them for my articles, but until I get better at this WA thing. . . . well, I don't pay much attention. I'm sure it would get me depressed, too. Just follow the lessons and review them when needed. I had to go back to a few of the early ones yesterday myself. It will happen My three months is up in 9 days. :)
Oh dear Marilyn, I'm sorry you've had such trouble. There seems to be a lot of people struggling at the moment.
I'm completely clueless when it comes to traffic and webmaster tools. Like you, I've just been researching keywords, writing decent content and assuming the visitors will turn up, but clearly it's not that simple!
I think I must go back to basics. Thanks for the kick!
I am glad that you are now on the right road and will be able to se some results in the near future.
Thank you very much Marilyn.
