A mind like a desert oasis.....in other words, My Progress

Picture a lovely desert oasis...fertile, lush ground in the middle of a desert which seems dead and quiet, but always blown around and reshaped by the winds. The oasis, however, is quiet, serene and devoid of constant activity. That's the mind of one with a huge writer's block. I keep reading "write something, anything." I can't see putting just anything that might sort of, kind of relate to my site. Then I read "make it quality content". Well, I'm even further off base there. I know the material, I am passionate about it, but when I sit to write something...anything, I can hear the echo between the ears, especially when a task at the end of a lesson says "write a page or post".....AGH! LOL

So, here is my post about progress. I must be doing something right though, even with the lack of posting as I continue to get followers. I don't feel right about it though, as I don't feel I'm helping those who visit my site as I should, and that's what I really really want to do.

Well, it's back to my site, to sit and stare at it and hope I get inspiration to come up with some good content to help those who go there for just that reason. Wish me luck!

Sometimes, taking a break from whatever you're stuck at will help you "break" up the log-jam in your head. Take a walk, or a nap, do some chores, anything that has NOTHING to do with what you're blocked about. You'd be amazed how many times things "pop to the surface" when you're taking a shower! Hang in there!

After taking a break, that is! ;-)

Hi Randi! It looks like this break lasted almost a week, but it was something I needed. I feel ready to sit back and tackle the keyboard again. Thanks for your words of encouragement.

Glad you're back at it! Listen to your body, and pace yourself. It's easy to get excited and overdo it, but your body and your brain need rest. Be good to yourself.

Thanks Randi, you're so right. It is easy to get carried away at times too.

Hello Margot. Good luck to you.

Thanks Edith, and the very best to you!

Hi Margot,
I think your writing is fine. I like the first couple sentences of your blog above. You've written a word picture. Have you read books on writing? I'm a writer too and when I get stuck I write. Nothing is wasted. Sometimes when you're writing you might find that the first page is trash, but the next sentence on the second page is where the story begins, but you needed to write all that other stuff to get there.
Wish you the best.

Hi Judy!
I might have read a book or two quite a long time ago. I did take a journalism course and writing course when I was in college and got great feedback from the professors. Unfortunately, my lack of confidence steered me away from pursuing writing...a big mistake on my part I think. I am going t take Carla's and your advice, and just start writing and see what happens. Thank you so much for your advice and support!

Hi Margot,
I understand the lack of confidence, have a lot of that myself. But this WA place with the website and blog and a huge desire to make this all work, along with writing, I'm determined to do it. Hang in there. We are all here for each other. Thanks for your support too.
Judy

Hi Judy, it's good to know I'm not alone. We can comiserate together. LOL. You can bet I'm determined too! I'm definitely not giving up....especially since I earned another $1.86 on my first adsense clickthru!! LOL
Good wishes from my heart to yours.

Oh how exciting, congrats on the earnings. I've yet to make my first dime or what ever it will be lol. Good wishes back.

Margot, you sound like me. . . . too much of a perfectionist at times. I'm a writer, so here's what I do. If I can't come up with quality content for one of my columns, I pull up a blank MS Word screen and just start scribbling, for lack of a better term. I write about anything. If the cat farts, I write it down. LOL Just keep going and, sooner or later, you will come up with some ideas for the content you are blocked on. Every person gets writer's block. And a lot of us aren't happy with what we write all the time, BUT. . . you are getting followers so somebody likes it, even if you don't. Don't be too hard on yourself. Good luck!

Carla, thanks so much for the advice. I think you've got something there with the "scribbling". Although I don't have a cat that farts, I do have 3 dogs. My notes there would be let dogs out, let dogs in, let dogs out, let dogs in...LOL! Really, thanks for the encouragement. Just what I needed to hear.

You're very welcome! I have two basset hounds and boy, oh boy, can they fart! LOL If I can help you with anything in the writing/editing vein, please let me know.

You're great! Thanks so very much!!
