Bought my domain! (Finally)

Alright I've been on WA for quite a while (not really) (okay around a month) but was still yet to purchase my own domain!

Why?

Well, because I couldn't think of a name! Despite having gone through the certification/bootcamp courses where Kyle would go through his howtolosebellyfat site, I felt like I wanted a brand. A BRAND that everyone will (hopefully) soon come to be familiar with. To those familiar with Star Wars, that is.

I wanted to have everything for my domain ready, so my website would be completely functional when it went up, so I decided to create and design the website on a temporary siterubix site before actually buying a domain and uploading it.

It was lucky I did this, as you'll find out below...

Thought I'd document my arduous journey here, for those who're curious!

Phase 1: First Name

I managed to come up with TheThoughtfulJedi as my brand name. I felt that it was nice, and hit all the juicy sweet spots for a good brand: catchy, easy to remember once you see it, and had a nice ring to it!

After thinking that up, I came up with my own logo design, which took quite a few hours of thought and Photoshop lessons.

Phase 2: Shut it Down!!!

I was eating dinner with one of my law school friends (whom I shared my website with) and she's the one that warned me about the potential copyright infringement in using the word 'Jedi' in my brand name! Oh dear.

This is especially a cause for concern if I was looking to make money off of it. I quickly emailed one of the LucasArts/Disney representatives asking if I could possibly use the word 'Jedi' in my brand name.

Alas! They had no choice but to reject my appeal, in an automated email :(

This was quite a severe blow to me as I had spent a good couple of weeks on the site/logo design, just to have it knocked clean out of my reach.

Phase 3: Getting Back Up

I decided to come up with another brand name (one without any such explicit Star Wars related words) and a new logo as well.

The painful part about all this was probably the need to reconfigure all the social media accounts that I had previously set up with 'TheThoughtfulJedi', as well as changing all the profile pictures/bio etc.

It would have been a real pity if I had bought the domain early on, only to realise the legal implications and abandon the site halfway. This is why it was a blessing that I had yet to buy the permanent domain yet.

But that's all in the past. I have since (today, actually) bought and uploaded my website theworthyapprentice.com and so far, so good!

If YOU like Star Wars, do feel free to check out my site!

The moral of this whole episode, then, is to never give up and persevere on. I drew encouragement from this amazing community, by reading the many blog posts, or occasionally taking part in a live chat conversation.

Thank you for reading, and hope you have a FANTASTIC day! :)
