Move your domains to WA!

Who ever imagined there would be a photo of a pig swimming with a bird catching a ride? That's so not relevant but it did surprise me when I was looking for a stock photo of a beach!

I have been busy the last 10 days preparing and then moving a few domains from other hosts to here at Wealthy Affiliate. This has been a tedious process of creating staging sites in Site Rubix, temporary landing pages, putting sites into Maintenance mode etc etc....and then actually the scary bit - switching them off from their original hosting platforms and redirecting them here!

I am breathing a sigh of relief today because now I'm done and everything has been consolidated which saves me quite a lot in fees - in fact I was almost up for premium renewal with Wix (2 days to go) when I finally did one of the "big ones" today.

Site support has been so fast and really great in fixing up any glitches I've had with the moves and I want to say thank you to the support team for being available 24 x 7 and always coming up with a fix!

Now I can properly get back to my real work and also back to the Bootcamp training - I only just commenced it and then realised I would have to do the domain moves asap.

I have a good niche site up and active for a few months now, slowly the traffic increases with that and I've had 2 sales as well, so I'm encouraged by the progress there. My current challenge is to get another site going for WA referrals.

If you haven't moved your existing domains yet I would highly recommend it as we are in a great position here, being able to have 25 premium hosted domains covered under our membership AND things like SSL and even email accounts are usually an add-on elsewhere so the savings really add up!

Hi!
I needed help in this. Just a quick question, are all your sites with wix a paid domain? Will a free one from wix be accepted for the transfer to WA platform. I'm at lost as to how to make the transfer and if its possible. Was considering other options like creating a 'dummy' webpage or creating a webpage from one of my facebook page(with the same name) and redirecting to my webpage. But that is really redundant and a waste of time.
I'm really not an IT savvy person but I'm willing to put the time and energy to make this work.

Oh ya another question, did you need to make any payment for the transfer for the previously paid domain into WA platform.

Looking forward to your reply and other's inputs.Im really stuck and feeling kinda hapless here.

Wix is particularly difficult. They are not a WordPress friendly platform. Your only recourse is to copy and paste the content into a siterubix site then purchase a new domain and transfer the site to it from there.

Thanks for your advice. On the contrary, I did find wix user friendly and the site beautiful. I have difficulty finding nice design in WA platform that suits my niche which deals with pregnant ladies(am a childbirth educator/doula)
That's why I'm considering creating a webpage using one of my facebook groups title and somehow directing it to my webpage at wix.
What are your thoughts on this?

Congrats... I am in ahh. I can’t imagine all the work that must have been needed to go behind the scenes!
Great move though. WA rocks in my opinion when it comes to quality and support!

It wasn't much fun Eliza but well worth it in the long term. I just made it in time with the "big" one to stop myself being charged again for hosting by Wix. Just glad I can move on now and not worry about it anymore!

Cheers, Mary-Louise

Your post reminds me that I need to move my domain over. I moved the site over a few months back but I have not wanted to tackle the domain move.

You have motivated me and I best get busy.

Thank You
Laura

It really is worth it Laura! The actual domain move was pretty quick and I followed some training here to achieve the transfer without delays - but it does take 16-24 hours to propagate so I had some downtime.

Unfortunately for me I had an important site on Wix that used the premium site-builder with ecommerce - they don't let you export anything except your product list - so lots of rebuilding there and still in Maintenance Mode!

Cheers, Mary-Louise

All the best to you and a speedy site recovery.

Laura

I can't even imagine doing something that complicated yet, Well done.

Yes Linda it wasn't a pleasant job and I'm so glad it's over!

Cheers

Yes, I know how tedious it is. I wanted to move one of my domains here and for years I couldn't because I used it for my emails in which it is part of another domain that I bought nearly 10 years ago back when they gave promotions of giving a free email.

They don't do that anymore. The moment I move my domain I will lose ten years of emails.

Congratulations of getting your domains moved.

Pete Weaver

Hi Peter - yes the email is a drama all of its own but I was fortunate that for my older sites I was using an external provider. I did have to cancel a couple of accounts and I saved the mail to my local computer - not quite the same but it was ok for me. I can see if you have 10 years worth it would be a real issue!

Cheers, Mary-Louise

Wow, thanks for the share, I love it and learnt something new today. Congratulations to you for the big steps and you done your change over to WA Hosting... Good luck

You have a great job for succession. A mark of success.
