An "inappropriate" question

I'm not trying to pry, but we're here to make money, right? Of course I'm not asking for detalis but I'm wondering if there is anybody within the sound of my voice that's willing to talk about their WA earnings.

Specifically, I'd like to know if you are currently and regularly supporting your home and family with what you bring in from your online business and if so, how long did it take to get there?

I've met a lot of great people here who have proved to be supportive and insightful but most of them are saying that they have made nothing or only make enough to cover the monthly membership fee.

Everybody's got to start somewhere but has anybody actually "arrived"?

I have read through the replies, and sense the tension this kind of question creates. I, like many others here, have been the route of other online marketers that have enticed with get-rick quick schemes and empty promises. Many of us have also done multilevel marketing, where it is common to show how much one can make. All this stuff may even have happened to you too. But we are here to learn and to succeed.

First, many came here to get AWAY from the hype and baloney. Of those who stay, they want to be successful with quality sites that reflect their passion AND integrity. As Kyle has stated many time in various lessons, quality is #1.

We all need to set our own goals and celebrate our successes. What is success to you many not be what is success for others. Your goals need to be specific to YOU. You need to write them down. Then you need to break them down into sub-goals and assign tasks to meet those goals. All of this, again, is personal to YOU.

Look at your goals, and your tasks (I call them my daily To--Do list) every single day, and cross them off as your complete them.

When you have a success, Celebrate! Then look forward to your next celebration.

WA not a fast track to success. It is a road map to help us each avoid wrong turns, lost time, and wretched failures. The University that is provided here is real. It offers training, a place to implement what you have learned, and caching all along the way.

Most of us have had our failures.. some more than others. While some will share those, many will not. The same thing goes with our successes.

Now you have a choice. You can set your sights on a goal and keep that goal in front of you, or you can keep focusing on the negative and end up running away. We are all here to help, but we cannot do your part.

You can really do this! Sure, you will have down days, frustrating days, lost time, but you will learn all long this journey. When it is encouragement you need, you can find it here.

Well said bloved. I'm certainly here for the education. Maybe having a passion for products or services that changes peoples lives makes all the difference. If I make money with WA that's great. I'm lucky to have found my passion and niche outside WA and now it's time to serve as best I can.

I see it as you have 2 options here. You can either give up and keep saying that you can't figure this stuff out and continue to work at a job you don't like and be miserable. Or you could stick with this and take people up on their generous offer to help you out. Plan out a schedule and try to work on this for at least 30 minutes each day.

Follow the training and work your membership into your monthly budget by whatever means necessary. If this means cutting out a few things you don't need like a coffee everyday or going out to eat. For me I dropped my cable TV because I decided that this was more important to me then watching TV. It's all up to you how bad you want to see success. We are all here cheering you on but it is going to take more than that for you to break on through to the other side and be successful.

I have already offered to help you out as much as I can along with many other people have offered their help to you as well. I hope you do decide to stick with this because I would hate to see you give up when you have came so far.

Thank you so much for posing this question, mamalama. And I appreciate everyone's comments as well. I would also love a follow up question that maybe some would not be willing to give - of that 5% that are earning a full-time income, are they doing it through the "make money online" niche promoting wealthy affiliate (or something similar) or through a different personalized niche (dog tricks, weight loss tips, etc.) or through diversification (having several sites that cover all of the above).

That is a great question.

Bootcamp is a relatively new course, it wasn't here a year ago but came about because of the demand from Members who wanted a step-by-step guide to sharing WA. I can say from my own experience that of the dozen-or-so Members that I know who are doing this full time with incomes from their sites in excess of $100k p.a. only one is promoting WA. :) Rich.

Is that right, wow thats staggering, not the money but that only 1 is promoting WA

It's probably because many of the major promoters don't tend to socialise, so I've never got to "meet" them. I myself have never promoted WA, I didn't even bother to affiliate the people I have sent here! IM per se bores me to tears so I wasn't interested in the MMO niche and Bootcamp wasn't available when I joined anyway. I always recommend that newcomers like myself with zero knowledge start with a "passion" niche, it's often faster to see results that way as many are nowhere near as competitive as MMO. Steve's (@IveTriedThat) "scratch" piece is definitely worth a read for his "take" on this: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/if-i-were-to-start-a-new-site Rich.

Now that's an excellent idea... that would be some awesome information!!!

@Rich. This is a gem for sure. Only one is promoting WA. Thanks for the info.

Excellent sharing here. Thank you for raising the subject, mamalama.

Yeah, it ain't cool hearing a response like "all you need is blah, blah, and you're on your way to millions". The Secret and LOA sold because we all wanted to win the lottery yesterday. No one wanted to admit success still takes time, effort, perseverance, patience.

But, oh, how I wish miracles do happen!

I admit to being scared often; even now. I worry about the monthly bills, and whether or not I can pay them. I wonder if there'll be enough to maintain my membership here, pay for other biz expenses, etc.

All i know now is that my prayer is to persist, no matter how tough the going gets. I've failed way too often enough to want to experience the exact opposite.

I wish the same success as Kyle's and Carson's for each and everyone here.

I agree completely.

I don't see it as "inappropriate", more a "piece of string" question, there are just too many variables. What prior knowledge does the person have? I'm not talking specifically about IM or MMO but such things as real-world experience and computer literacy. How much time can they invest? The results will be different for someone who can only spend a couple of hours a week than another who has a few hours a day to knuckle down. Have they chosen a difficult niche, "life with my cat" or "my favourite tattoos"? etc. etc. I always look askance at "success" stories, the worst scams are awash with them, usually illustrated with pictures of flash cars, yachts and mansions alongside photoshopped (?!) copies of income statements. I have a mate here who earned a full time income (whatever that means) in a couple of months, in my case it took me half-a-year and three busted niches. However, what I earned last month c. $12,000 is no guarantee of what next month's earnings will be. I also know that with a few notable exceptions, the majority of those who've done WA training and are making a living from their online businesses are now unfortunately far too busy running them to spend much time here on the WA website engaging with the community. :) Rich.

good point Rich, I hope I am never to busy to engage with WA...half the fun

A valid question and concern, Heres my take, No I am not making money yet, I am ranked 43 and have almost a thousand followers. I work hard at this every day and I mean HARD. This is a new business for me, not a GRQ scheme and a new business takes time and effort. When I became a dentist in 1992 I had spent 10 years in uni, yep 10! and it cost me $82000 dollars, I started my first practice and didn't 'make' money for 14 months, after overheads and student loans. A business takes time, it needs cultivating and it needs love and attention. I have no doubt that my online business will work because I am learning it all and someone has to be making it. If its 5% as Devan says then based on say 60000 people here then 3000 will be making money and out of those 3000, 20% will be doing the lions share so 600 will be doing well. I am creating many 'buckets' for my income, websites, affiliates, courses, speaker circuit, books etc. I am not a stupid person by any means and if after a year I am not seeing any results then I will not be using this particular vehicle of WA to increase my income and I would only have spent about £350.
As for the motivators, well I consider myself a huge motivator and we need people like that in a place like this to keep it real and get people to do the work. I am currently working on a tutorial to get your referrals coming in, someones got to do it lol.....Keep the faith

Nice MickeyB! All the best for all of us - agree, keep the faith! :)

When I started teaching dance in 2006 I had 1 class with 2 girls in for the first 2 or 3 months. The business grew and shrank according to the time of year. I've had 200 students and right now I have somewhere between 50 and 60. Over time I've come to expect when I'll have higher numbers and when I'll have lower. That's business. Since I've got a handle on the ebb and flow of the program I'm now brave enough to start some creative advertising. I learned from experience in a no pressure environment. This is a little different. I took my first dance class at age 3. Creating a dance program was as natural as breathing for me. I consider myself to be technologically retarded so online business is far more challenging. I'm willing to work toward being 20% of the 5% that do well here. I just wish I had known the odds before I started.
As for the statements against "motivators", for me that comes from too many experiences in which I asked for help and received a motivational statement instead. The answer to "How do you do this?" is not "You can do it. Think positive!" I appreciate your encouragement. We all need it some time.

mamalama, we all need encouragement in life sometimes, in the past I have earnt 6 figures and those days have been some of the darkest and neediest times of my life. Now I am broke and so happy that I am on top of the world and ready to give so go figure. We all need a push from us motivators sometimes LOL....

I agree with you. The figures seem pretty realistic too. Most us (including me) probably don't work as hard as we should be. The potential return on investment is fantastic though! :)

Hey there, If you are still in doubt to whether or not this stuff is real or not then I want to share one of my success stories with you. Keep in mind this is from back in may and I have tripled my efforts since then. It took me failing a couple times, giving up 1 time, and then finally getting serious about this to get where I am now. Check out this blog post if you need some encouragement. https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/scottdogg187/blog/my-most-successful-month-at-wa-so-far

Hi. I'm not discouraged and I'm not doubtful. I'm just wondering how long it has taken successful people to produce a consistent and reliable income. I have to pay my rent and utilities monthly so I want to know if anybody makes an income they can count on to pay all their monthly household expenses... besides Kyle.

Not yet No!

Me Either! But I have learned the hard way that I need to have an offline job until I am making enough money online and I highly recommend that to anyone who has bills to pay. Find a job first. Spend your free time building the business and then quit your job. It is much easier to build the business without having to worry about paying the bills. :)

Based on my experience online I would say only 5% of the members here at most are making enough to support their lifestyle. I have no hard cold evidence but then again no one is providing any evidence to the contrary and I often wonder why?

I hope there are members out there that will prove me wrong by giving us some hard facts about their success online.

There is an old thread in the forum about success but even with the thread I stand by my 5% prediction because there were only a few stand out successes compared to the total number of members.

I think maybe they are afraid if they speak up they will become swamped with requests for help and they want to keep their methods a secret. I only know of a handful of people that SEEM to be doing well - but no hard evidence.

Of course on the positive side if I stop spending my time writing responses and focus on building the business instead, I may become one of those 5 % !

Thanks for sharing. That makes sense.

I have arrived...

When you ask money questions with a group of strangers, you are likely to hear crickets. It is only natural. Like REAL life, many people do not like to divulge their earnings, but I can tell you many folks here are doing this full time, some part time, and many also getting up and running.

All different stages of success which makes this really awesome.

I have never told a single person how much I make (in real life or online) and that is just how I am. It is not anyones business in my opinion and if you have ever asked someone that you meet on the street how much you make, you are likely going to get a snarky response.

Perhaps some folks will chime in on this thread. I can tell you that it took me personally to about a year to become almost full time and by the two year mark I was very successful (in respect to what most people make).

Business is real and millions of people make a full time living online. That should be enough of a validation that it is worth your while. You should check out this thread as well:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/getting-started/how-to-start-out-online-on-the-wrong-foot

Maybe I wasn't clear. I absolutely did not want to know about anybody's bank balance. I simply was curious if anyone would be willing to say something like, " I support my family with my online business. It took me x-months or x-years to get to that point." If I ever figure this out I will answer this question to whoever asks it. And just to repeat, I don't want to know how much anyone's monthly check is.

OK, cool...that is more than fair. You have my story and I really did start out in the same situation as everyone else (minus the help and support of a community).

2 months to make my first dime.
6 months I was paying all my school tuition (as I went along)
1 year, was full time.
2 years, was more than full time, supporting family, life, fun, etc ALL through affiliate marketing.
11 years. Today. :)

Thanks Kyle, thats really helpful

Yep, I'm with ya', Deborah. I appreciate the 'motivators' here, but just give me your earning facts and how ya' did it and that'll motivate the puddin' outta me. Keep your Robbins, Chopra, Confucius and Coveys' and just give me the facts! LOL !!!
