Wealthy Affiliate 20th Anniversary: What It Looked Like Back in 2005
Wealthy Affiliate just hit 20 years in business.
That’s right—two full decades of affiliate marketers building sites, chasing rankings, and drinking way too much coffee.
Back in 2005…
- We were on MSN Messenger sending nudges like it was serious business
- MySpace was where you ranked your “Top 8 friends” (awkward)
- And Wealthy Affiliate? They already had real-time chat, keyword tools, and a killer community
I dug up what the site actually looked like—and it’s like stepping into an internet time machine.
Think about it…
- Back when MSN Messenger was where friendships lived and died, WA had its own real-time chat for affiliates.
- While we were all rocking flip phones with pixelated Snake, WA was already giving members keyword research tools.
- MySpace was the hot social network, and here was WA building out a real community with forums and PMs that actually mattered.
And the membership fee? $29.99. In 2005, that was “premium”—basically the price of 3 Blockbuster rentals and a bucket of popcorn. Assuming you were kind.. and rewind.
- You’ll see WA’s old school interface that somehow felt futuristic back then
- You’ll laugh at the tools that look dated but were absolutely cutting-edge for the time
- You’ll hear how I almost launched an empire of .info sites 😂 (spoiler: Carson saved me from myself)
- And you’ll get a whole new appreciation for how WA has stayed relevant when countless others have disappeared
This is proof that Wealthy Affiliate has always been ahead of the curve.

Thank you for sharing, Jay, it's appreciated.
It's interesting to see how Wealthy Affiliate has changed over the years, I had no idea what it looked like when it first began. Although, I have seen a few posts about the original platform.
I've been on the platform for almost 11 years, if I'd known about the platform in the early days, it would have saved me thousands of pounds, rather than purchasing scam products! However, I'm here now! It's good to get the right training!
Have a great day.
Roy
Thanks, Jay, for the walk down memory lane. WA is the only place to be, where, yes, it might seem expensive, but what you get is everything in one box. They are always adding more, the training is second to none, and the people here are so supportive. Here's to the next 20 years
I remeber MySpace and used it as a blogging platform, until it change and stopped it to e used that way
They told users that we could use WordPress instead, but failed to say that we had to that manualyI
With no real warning that user had to copy and store all post before they would be deleated
Totally agree with you, Jay, Wealthy Affiliate has always been ahead of the curve, and that’s what makes WA so special.
To think it all started back on September 10th, 2005, it’s incredible to see how far WA has come.
Hearty congratulations to all WA Team on 20 amazing years, and I have to say, it’s always been such a great feeling to be part of WA fam:)

Hi Jay,
Wow, nineteen years!
Thank you for the wonderful flashback in time.
WA has really come a long way, all thanks to the vision of the founders and the great contribution of experts like you on the platform as it keeps evolving.
