Changing My Mindset

One of the things that's happened since I started at Wealthy Affiliate is that my mindset has changed and improved.

When I started Wealthy Affiliate, I was so down on myself and really didn't think that much of myself. As far as my self-talk, the less said, the better. I was so horribly negative, and beat myself up every time I appeared to have failed. Even the slightest mistake. I knew I shouldn't have done that, but I couldn't seem to stop myself.

What changed? I started reading self-development books and blog posts. I started questioning my beliefs. I started actively being gentle with myself. I started refusing to talk nastily to myself. It doesn't really help, except for making me feel bad about myself.

There's that part in the Bible where Jesus says to "Love thy neighbor as you love yourself". Well, that's the trick isn't it. We're told to love our neighbor, but not to love ourselves, to have contempt for ourselves, but Jesus didn't really teach that. We need to learn to love ourselves. It makes loving our neighbor a whole lot easier.

He also said he had come to give life and give it more abundantly. This is pretty cool. But what does abundant mean? What is it to live abundantly? Well, I'm still on disability, and I'm working on that, but I think it starts anyway with gratitude to the Creator, however you wish to see HIm/Her/. To be thankful for the smallest things.

I still live in a house. It may be small, but i's still shelter from the elements. I'm grateful for our air conditioner because I can breathe at night and sleep easier.

I still have my Wealthy Affiliate membership, and haven't had to cancel it because of economic reasons. I still have hope that I can actually, with action every day to take steps to actually bringing money into our house.

Do I want more? Sure I do, and I'll get there, but it starts how I see myself first. I'm not perfect., but I'm getting there, little by little. If if I was perfect, I wouldn't be on this material plane. If that I have something to learn, as well as to teach. Right now, with Wealthy Affiliate, I'm learning how to put in the foundations to teach. My future starts with the beliefs and attitudes I have now. If it's actually possible to earn $1000 a month, then $3000 a month and on upward. If that what I do today will be reflected in 6 months, a year, 5 years from now, and so on.

I've also learned that it's OK to want a better life, that even if I have to start over, I don't have to beat myself up for false starts. It's experience, and I can revisit the lessons again, and find things I didn't notice the first or second time. That it goes smoother, that I understand more.

When I think how far I've come, I just feel awe. I start realizing that I made progress when I didn't realize it because I was so close to it. Too close to it and the issue, actually, but it was a small hill, not the impassable mountain I thought it was. I was blinded by my emotions, by my over-reacting, but I'm not doing this every single time like I used to do. I'm actuallty improving.

You are an amazing person. It takes a brave person to change their mindset and to give up being their own worst enemy!

I think you are doing great and I look forward to seeing you flourish!

Keep pushing yourself, but don't beat yourself up if things don't go right. Just add it to your experience points and move onward!

Best wishes to you as you continue your journey!

Thanks, Karin. I don';t know about brave, but I knew something had to change. I beat myself up a lot less often though, but there are days when I do if I'm otherwise having a bad day. It's one of those symptoms of ADHD. My executive functions of which emotional control is a part of. I can do it, but it talkes a lot of focus and work more than most people. I'm still not giving up. I just keep picking myself up. :)

Good for you! If you keep moving forward you will succeed!

Thanks, Karin! Currently, I'm between 2 niches I'm super interested in; Keto for senior citizens, which admittedly has lots of opportunity for affiliate marketing programs(I keep going back to my Keto for over 50 books in my Kindle) and overcoming self-sabotage for women who are either on the verge of getting assessed and diagnosed for ADHD or those who are newly diagnosed for ADHD. Both niches have an equal interest with me, but not as sure of affiliate marketing program opportunities as with the Keto one. I can write about both, but those two are really see"duking it out"!

I know a lot of the senior-aged people in my area are interested in Keto and dieting options like that. I haven't heard much about the ADHD issues.

Perhaps you could get your Keto site up and going and when you are well into that (a few months) start the ADHD one. You could perhaps start making some money from the Keto site in that time.

It would depend a lot on whether or not you can split your focus between the two sites.

Do you know if ADHD is related to diet at all? If it is perhaps you could incorporate it into the Keto site?

Just some thoughts.

You have overcome a lot to get to the point you are now. Don't ever forget that. When you begin to "beat yourself up," just remember all you have done to get to where you are. It sounds like you are doing that and changing your mindset to more positive.

I know it is hard. I suffer from depression and sometimes it is extremely hard to even get out of bed much the less put on a positive "I can do this" attitude. I used to beat myself half to death mentally, but now I have come to the point that I can share my story with others and not beat myself up about it even when I have days (or even weeks sometimes) when I want to do nothing but sit in a corner.

If you should ever need or want to talk, feel free to send me a message and we can write it out! 😊

Thanks, Karin. I just want to get something started. I had a few false starts, but decided that the "Passive Income for seniors" would be better for the Affiliate Bootcamp, and I'm not really ready for that right now, at least til I get some income streams, including affiliate marketing started myself. So I'm back in the OEC. However, absolutely am not giving up! It's getting something started and money coming in, lol, that's my main concern, and I want to focus on what will give me the least frustration. I can't say I'm a cook, but I find the Keto cookbooks really interesting, but some cookbooks, omg. :0, some of them aren't even Keto. They're just using the keyword, because it's popular. Boy, oh, boy! I'm interested in the science, though I don't have a degree in nutrition. I like figuring out how things work.

I like your idea of doing the Keto one first, though, it's the least frustrating for me, keyword and Jaaxy permitting of course, lol. I don't know about splitting my time, but eventually, I'd like to tie them together at some point. From what I've read, not enough information has come in that supports that the Keto would help ADHD one way or another, Just not enough time has gone by. Those studies tend to take as long as some glacial ice ages. But from what I've studied about Keto is that sometimes it can help Parkinson's and Alzheimer's because lower glucose (other than what's needed for parts of the brain to work--some parts of the brain won't work with ketones; it needs glucose, and that can be made in the liver). I believe some people are calling Alzheimer's Diabetes Type 3, I think. The fewer refined carbohydrates that someone eats, the fewer that can screw up the brain and make the Alzheimer's symptoms worse. I suspect that Keto helps ADHD, but no real concrete evidence has come in and I havne't tested it myself.

As far as "beating myself up" I do that too much. It's one of the symptoms I live through, that and apologizing, like every hour. It's part of the executive functions. That controls organization, time management, and emotional control, and that was futzed up because I was born without a thyroid gland, so technically I have cretinism, but I've had these problems all my life.

Thanks again for the offer to PM you, that's really appreciated. I'm just looking forward to next month when I can talk to my doctor/phsycian's assistant and ask for a referral to get an assessment for ADHD, but I have a lot of the symptoms, so it looks good. I think I'd like to work with whatecver site for 6 months or so, and I want to do the one with ADHD right with what I know of ADHD, though I'm just starting to do research into the adult ADHD thing. I've done some, but it's starting to get indepth.

Again, thanks so much for your input. Helps a lot!
