Time Wasters
One thing I hate are people who are just happy to waste people's time, but can have a devastating impact on lives. My own daughter is one of these, unfortunately.
She applied for a University course on Psychology as a mature student and attended an open day creating huge excitement and she couldn't wait to complete the paperwork. She took all the advice she could get and submitted an excellent set of papers, then sat back and waited.
With the deadline date of the 17th July fast approaching her nerves were on edge and she was, understandably, irritable, but the day came and almost went and then she got an e-mail at 8.00 at night from the company who had submitted her application, to say they had the paperwork because the University hadn't got back to them. To say she was disappointed was a massive understatement.
However, she had the right to know why she hadn't had a reply so rang the University direct the following day to be told that the people responsible for checking applications were on holiday! One of the busiest times and they let key people go on holiday. They assured my daughter that they could claw back the application and it was still under consideration.
Another week went by and she had to ring them again and an extremely disinterested manager casually asked her what course she was on and then was told in an abrupt manner and with about as much interest as a box of bananas, that the person responsible for checking Psychology applications had been given THREE WEEKS LEAVE.
As of today my daughter still hasn't heard anything and today is the day that everyone all over the U.K. who hasn't got into their first choice University will go into 'Clearing' which simply means they will apply for every other university that has places for their chosen subject! My daughter works so cannot go into clearing until tonight by which time it might be too late, she couldn't even do the paperwork in readiness last night for online submission today as it was saying it was the wrong date. (i.e. not the 1st August.)
It is quite possible that she might have to wait another year now and universities are crying out for mature students to return to education, so her original choice have a lot to answer for. I'm pretty sure that when it comes to Graduation Day nobody will be allowed to have any leave, but admissions are just as important.
