Suggestions: How Not to be a Big Chief Lackafocus
This work environment (the internet) can be a very distracting place. As we know, there are so many things to do and places to go. When we want to do a task of some sort, very often we find ourselves doing some thing totally unrelated... it's unbelievable...!!! We end up asking ourselves, "How did I get here", or "What was it I wanted to do, again"?
These are a few things I try to do to keep myself on task when I'm working here at WA.
Try working at your computer for an hour, then going outside or doing something else more active... then coming back for another hour, 45 minutes, however long your goal is...
Moving around is good...it stimulates thoughts and ideas... perhaps even inspiration...!!! It's good for your body too after sitting for a while.
The other thing (my big problem) is not being distracted by the internet itself... checking emails, Facebook, reading stories once we're sitting in front our computers can be VERY distracting...We just have to be like a horse with blinders on and focus on our path or present goal...
Another thought is to allow ourselves some internet recreation time where we have no work goals...Set a timer... We just tell ourselves that for this next half-hour or hour, I'm surfin' the net, baby... Ain't doing nothin' but watching these crazy pet videos people are sending me or posting on FB, or whatever it is we like to do.
These are a few things that help me be a Big Chief Lotsafocus...!!!

Well, I can tell you a couple of things I have learned.
First, you have to get up and move intentionally or you will gain weight. Since I started working on my blog here at WA and have been sitting in front of the computer much more than I used to, it has happened to me. So you are definitely right about that.
Second, as website owners and/or bloggers, we are writers. Writing takes practice and is learned and developed by practice. I struggle with content as we all do and the only way to get it done is to write. In practice, we should be writing something every day. I am not saying publish daily. I am saying to write every day, whether it is in MSW, a journal, or in a draft post.
I agree with you about the timer and recreation. Scheduling is the hardest part for me, so I use http://timer-tab.com often. As for recreation, I play very little on the Internet. I am usually reading or trying to nurture an idea. My breaks are cleaning up the kitchen, cooking and spending time with my son.

Timer tab... Good one.... Interesting points on writing and what it takes to be good at it... U
Those are huge distractions, especially fb. That's basically how I watching my grandkids grow up. I like the timer idea and will probably use it. Thanks.
