Progress After Two Weeks
My biggest takeaway after the first two weeks is that the training has been great. I have a website up and running, am filling it with content, have learned about how many different components connect to drive traffic, and have a better understanding of the WordPress platform.
I've tried to get a WordPress blog up and running before but had no luck - partly because I got too caught up in making it look perfect before I started adding content and that was just never going to happen. Going through the training here, I could see the things I was previously doing wrong.
If I had to list anything that I am having trouble with it would be customizing my theme. I'd like to add a more visual banner behind my site title and change the font a bit and I also can't seem to fill the content of my pages - everything still just goes on the blog roll. I am positive these things can be figured out though.
I don't know how long, on average, it takes for most pages to achieve a rank with Google but that's my next goal. That and to keep plugging away on the training. Then it will be on to the next site - I have ideas for so many!

Congratulations! It is not as easy as falling off a log but it can be done fairly quickly. Once you get indexed by Google, the ranking begins. It could take anywhere from two days to a Looong time (based on comments blogged here.
It is good that you have already figured out the next couple of sites; Just don't expect perfection before you get going on them!
Thank you so much for the encouraging words - this community is so involved it's amazing! It will definitely help me stay motivated.
