Reflection 2 After 10 Years At Wealthy Affiliate - When Urgency Shows Up
When Urgency shows up
Hi Everyone
Do you remember when you started at WA and imagined results would be quick despite reading that this is not a get rich quick process or platform?
Urgency often looks like motivation but it frequently has the opposite effect.
Working on your business in the urgency mode is a burnout risk. Burnout typically leads to decline in motivation, disengagement, detachment and a loss of drive to achieve goals. It causes a "numb" attitude toward training and tasks and a "minimal effort" approach, significantly lowering productivity and overall performance.
This is why when it feels urgent to make money quickly, it’s worth pausing for a moment. Not to stop but just taking enough time to notice you are in the urgency mode.
Work seems to unfold more steadily when that’s noticed.
In my early days at Wealthy Affiliate, urgency never left me alone. I was constantly frantic in my training, driven by the need to make things happen fast, to see results right away. This frantic pace however, took its toll at some point. I suffered burnout.
Urgency pushes us to move quickly and we even skip parts of the training.
Our minds are craving certainty, we're worried about paying bills or meeting that tight deadline, needing to make money urgently. It feels pressing.
These experiences taught me how to use urgency as a tool rather than letting it control me.
I got to know the difference between using urgency to enhance growth and urgent frenzies that hinder performance. When we feel that rush of urgency, it’s not necessarily that something has to be done there and then without thinking things through.
Reflecting on ten years with Wealthy Affiliate, the growth has been immense. Not just in building a business but in shaping how I see challenges. It's essential to see building a business as a long term project right from the beginning. This creates steadfastness.
I learned to embrace urgency, not as an enemy, but as a switch or guide that pushes me to sit up, to get going but then pausing to reassess and realign my goals, be it for the day or for the whole journey. It's a subtle shift, but once you recognize it, the impact is transformative. Every time you feel the heat of urgency, remember, it’s just the first stepping stone or rather your push button to begin your tasks.
Patience and Long-Term Vision
Balancing immediate urgency with a long-term vision is key. I've learned that while urgency can offer that initial spark, patience is what keeps the fire burning. It's about staying grounded in the realisation that this is a marathon and not a sprint.
I had to master the balance by slowing down just enough to think clearly. This isn’t about stopping in your tracks but about taking moments to refine and adjust. It's a strategy that has helped me to stay the course and not throw in the towel.
Whenever I want something I can't afford right away, it's a reminder to get back to work, not for quick results but to keep going and create more.
Deliberately planning your moves rather than rushing, leads to remarkable resilience. It seems contrary to embrace patience when urgency knocks, but time and time again, it proves to work wonders.
Choosing patience doesn’t mean being passive. Instead, it's an active decision to engage in your journey with resilience and intention.
We can use the push that urgency brings to fuel initial motivation, but not letting it steer our whole journey.
Turn urgency into an asset by keeping it in check while fostering sustainable growth. This has deepened my understanding of how to better navigate my own path.

Morning Midsummer
I like your perspective. I pulled these words 'Deliberately planning your moves rather than rushing, leads to remarkable resilience.'
Define 'Urgency' is it
1 - something that needing attention right away or
2 - a cultivated mindset used to accelerate decision-making and ensure deadlines are met.
I say this because your perspective seems aimed at the concept of making money quickly. I'm seeking clarity here.
Your closing line states 'The Wealthy Affiliate journey is a chance to develop future-proof businesses while growing personally. That line resonates with how I look at business, for me this journey is about building legacy.
My children are my future, preparing for their well-being today is what is important (to ME)
Just saying ^_^ Cheers. really nice post,
Hi Paul, my concept is - urgency exists but we can turn it around to help us as a push button to begin tasks but not as fuel to use when we work. If we use it as fuel when we work our work is hurried and we quickly get tired and lose interest when results don't come in as quickly as we want. In short, let patience and long term vision control how you work not the urgency to have quick results because building a business at WA is not a get-rich-quick scheme.
Thank you for asking, it always gets me thinking of other ways to express myself.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

No problem with your concept Midsummer, your long-term vision control lines up with my legacy thinking, just said in different words. And yeah, anyone coming here expecting to get rich quick will be sorely disappointed.
^_^ Cheers Have a fulfilling weekend also
Thank you Paul. There is also a part of me that thinks almost all of us come here secretly hoping to get results really quickly. This is why most people leave as well and not because WA does not work. And this is also why I have decided to write this article. Hopefully it will help people see this urgency mode, adjust and plan long term instead.
I love how you re-framed urgency as a tool instead of an enemy.
Your ten-year reflection shows how much growth comes from patience and long-term thinking. This is incredibly encouraging for anyone feeling rushed right now.
Hi Peter
I always have things I want and am not able to afford. So, when this crosses my mind, it reminds me that I've gotta keep going to create more money.
So, for me, anything urgent financially is a nudge to go back to work, not in an urgent way but steadily continuing.
I've actually come to love how this keeps me going. Instead of having a feeling of lack, I get excited to keep going.
Enjoy your weekend

I think we all have things we want but can't afford. WA gives us a platform to potentially achieve what we want.
Have a great weekend
Nicely said. I can say Ive encountered bits of this for sure, and youre right, stay grounded when urgency arrives. Not always a nice light switch to flip, but truth!
Hi Jeremy
I think most come here thinking it's possible to make money really quickly because there are pressing issues. They push too hard, skip stuff and when results don't show up as quickly as they wish, they get disappointed and leave. This is missing out on opportunities.
Enjoy your weekend.

Absolutely. I gave myself 2 years to make money with this platform, until i zoomed the lens out, knowing that i got myself into a business (4 now) , that i needed to treat this as long term. I don't care now if it takes 12 years, they will compound and i will succeed.
Absolutely true, it doesn't matter how long it takes as long as you know that you are going to get there. And any mind that genuinely means what it wants will always get there. Wishing you continues success. I personally believe that the journey is the most enjoyable part than the end result.

This is a really good article for all of us to read. My sense of urgency was different because I started with Wealthy Affiliate while working enough to pay my bills and still be able to travel a bit. So the urgency I have been feeling, and am still feeling is to get that pretty G placed in my profile that shows my website is being ranked by Google. I am trying to be patient about it though. I will never give up.

Thank you for stopping by Michael. You started from a good place. Now you can just continue steadily till you get there. Wishing you all the best in your business.
