How to Deal with Haters on Facebook.

As you put in the work and start getting traffic from your Facebook Ads, your Facebook Business (Fan) Page starts getting the love via “likes”. Suddenly you notice a negative comment on your page. What do you do?

Well understanding that negative comments from “haters” comes with the territory, there are 3 ways in which you can lessen the impact of negative people on your page. The following are 3 main bullet points to follow:

1. Target your audience well – Make sure to use images and ad copy that will be clear in your message. For example, if you run a home improvement store, and you run a campaign that targets people who like to garden, you can run an image of a vegetable plate specifically for people who like to grow their own food and prepare their meals. A targeted ad like this one will leave no ambiguity as to who the advertisement is for and will leave the negative comments to a minimum.

2. Make sure to use the Moderation Settings – One of the great features of Facebook Business pages is that it allows you to moderate posts and block certain keywords within fan posts. You can block words such as scam, spam, trash, rubbish amongst others. You can prevent the use of these words before any one else sees them. There is a profanity block level setting for you to use if you feel the need. Consumers need to understand that in the end, even if it is a point of view, a Facebook Business page needs to stay professional and keep serving the needs of other consumers.

3. Hide Comments on your Fan Page – As a Facebook Page Manager you have the power to hide a comment on your wall. Even though that person stills sees their own post, it does not appear on other peoples page. This avoids the negative comments from spreading like wildfire. It is a better approach to hide the negative comments rather than deleting them. This way the “hater” does not feel scorned by the company that does not like their negative posting.

Let me know what you think. Have you come across any “haters” on your Facebook Page?

Thanks for this. I recently ran an add on my newly created Page Post and had a “comment is hidden” message. When I saw the message I was glad it was hidden. I actually deleted the comment and blocked the user by searching his name. What this right or wrong as I note you say to leave the comment hidden? You also say they can see their comment but no one else can if it is hidden and I didn’t know that. Thank you.

If you see a lot of negative talk in comments or in a chat sometimes it is best to remember that silence is golden. If you respond in an angry manner that response will always be engraved in the internet. That's just my two cents for today.

A good short list :) I like it. I have one more to add.

The fourth way is you can address it, with a mature reasoned response. Sometimes how you deal with this sort of thing wins you more respect than ignoring it.

Thanks for this post!!! Great techniques here to go by :)

Great tips! Never thought of this.
