My trials and tribulations with email forwarding!

I just lost hours and hours of time trying to track down some issues with forwarding emails. I truly love being able to forward email to an existing email account and thus not give out any of my good ids.

This last week I wanted to register my web site with some search engines using my forwarded email. So I went through the registrations and waited for my confirmation emails to arrive - and waited and waited!!!! Later I went to my email account and checked the junk filter - nothing. So I sent myself a few emails at my forwarding address - nothing!

By now of course I am suspecting that my email forwarding here at WA is not working, so I entered a support ticket. Within minutes (the response time was very impressive - and it was even Saturday!) I heard back that the logs indicated that my emails were successfully forwarded and my issue was not stemming from my WA account.

Now I am really getting suspicious and started researching on the web. The email address I attempted to forward to is an outlook.com address. What I found was a lot of talk on some of the tech forums that Microsoft has a hit and miss record with forwarded emails! It seems that sometimes they just fall off the face of the earth, with no indication of where they went! I did some testing and the results were indeed hit and miss. One of my forwarding addresses would come through, while another one would not! Many of the folks in the forums had concluded that Microsoft has its own rules about what does and does not come through, rules that we cannot control!

So... if you have an online Microsoft email address (msn.com, live.com, hotmail.com, outlook.com) and are having forwarding issues, you may want to switch to another email service.

My resolution was to send my email to a domain that I own with an associated email address that I rarely use. This is certainly not what I wanted, but at least it works!!!

For those of you still reading - Happy emailing!!

Yes! I have that same issue. If happens intermittently when I am asked to verify something. It could be happening on other e-mails as well that I would have no idea about. It looks like I need to reset my e-mail client away from outlook and into gmail. That sounds foreboding. I am not relishing the thought of that undertaking. Where do I even start?

I don't know if your question (Where do I even start) was rhetorical or not, but you can create a gmail email account up at www.gmail.com. Of course, when you set up this account you are actually setting up a Google account so you can use all of Google's services. After you create your email address you can go to your WA Email accounts page and change your forwarding email address. The WA Email page is a tab under 'Build my website' selection. ----- Lynn

I have gmail. Thanks for the heads up. What a pain!

Yes, I have a gmail account too and love it! But my outlook account was better suited for my purposes! Gotta love Microsoft!
