My goal post and very first blog post on WA
Hi all!
I'm not sure where to start, so I'll just jump right in.
I joined WA about a month ago, and I became a premium member a week ago. So far I have:
- Created a great looking website (my humble opinion, very proud of myself)
- Written about 5 blog posts
- Gotten to the last lesson at level 2 training (my inspiration for this post)
- Worked a bit harder than I have since the beginning of the year
- Found something that makes me VERY excited
This may not look like much, and it isn't much compared to what I feel is coming.
I have wanted to start my own website since I graduated as dietitian, 1 and a half years ago. I love my job, I really do. But I'm sure you've heard that working for yourself has some challenges. I started sharing a private practice with a very experienced and truly inspiring colleague in the beginning of 2019.
I have learned a lot already, but I was getting bored. I started feeling like I had way too much free time, as patients grow with you through the years, you're not fully booked from day one. You don't start out amazing and trustworthy. I learned that this year. You'd think this is obvious, but sometimes you just have such high expectations that things can certainly be a let down.
So, I've had this idea about a really awesome blog and website in my head, but every time I looked into it, I convinced myself that I won't be able to do it. I started feeling that I just don't have enough knowledge or know-how to do this properly. Also, it looked expensive, and I'm not exactly rolling in the money, starting out as a dietitian.
Last month, this nagging feeling to do something came back HARD. I literally sat down and googled "how to make more money as a dietitian". Of course, a WA member (hi Nathaniell) knew what he was doing and wrote an article on exactly that.
I checked out WA and joined as a starter member, but I thought it didn't make sense at first. I thought the messages I was sent was automated or something, I didn't for one second think that people would actually personally contact me, help me, and cheer me on. So I ignored it.
Then, about 2 weeks ago, the nagging feeling came back AGAIN. You just can't ignore these things. So I did my research, did level 1 training, and then took the plunge and joined premium.
So far, it's been great. You saw my progress above. I love writing, I don't even notice time passing by when I'm writing. I feel like I have discovered some sort of superpower that I always knew I had, but ignored. It's kind of amazing.
My niche is health, food, and nutrition. Being a dietitian, I love this and also know quite a bit about it.
My goals for the next 3 months:
- Finish the training
- Make my first dollar
- Write at least 3 blog posts a week
My goals for the next 6 months:
- Continue creating 3 blog posts a week
- Create a product I can sell on my site (such as an e-book with recipes/meal plans)
- Try Bootcamp and see how that goes
- Pay my rent with the money I make here (don't stress about my expectations, I live in South Africa, our exchange rate is horrible: I can pay my rent with less than $200)
I would just like to say thanks to everyone that has helped, encouraged and made me feel welcome here. I can see why people enjoy being part of WA and also why people stick around. The membership and support is just so worth it.
My days are much fuller and busier lately, and I LOVE it. I am a hard worker and a semi-perfectionist, sitting around and waiting for things to happen to me doesn't work for me, I like to go out and happen to things.
So, thank you all, for the new goals and purpose.
