I did something I haven't done in many years and that's go down to the Times Square area on New Year's Eve. Or tried to. There were far too many police blockades along the way to overcome in order to get closer to the "ball drop." When I finally got to an open area, the police were digitally scanning people before let them down Broadway. I ain't got time for that and finally gave up and went home.
Such is living in the post-9/11 city.

Many years ago I worked in at Howard Johnson's restaurant Times Square and would work on New Year's Eve, so I was witness to the madness and believe me, it was a lot more mad in the late '70s, early '80s than it is now. People are much more well behaved nowadays. Back then you had to be concerned with muggings and assaults not car bombings by home-grown terrorists.
I'd trade the dirty bombs for the bad behavior and muggings any day. So now I'm nice and warm at home and watching the very amusing Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin freeze their a**es off in Times Square. Better them than me!
Have a bright and shiny 2015, everyone!
