Sport as inspiration for life
In my very short history as a wannabe story teller, Pilates already rates as a highly overused keyword of mine. Well I am at it again! I can’t help but correlate life to a Pilates workout every time I go to class. Just when I am thinking, “I’ve got this” the instructor will come along, move me a quarter of an inch and I collapse
faster than the GDP of Greece. Then I regroup, push through a bit of pain and come out stronger the other side. Oh how simple that sounds! If only it were that simple for Greece:) Not simple in reality but a great analogy for life - take a quarter inch shift at a time to push out of your comfort zone, gain competency and strength then push again. Some people are adept at taking giant leaps and all power to them, but for the main, small shifts are easier to pull back from if you feel a muscle tear coming on!
Having said that, I am taking a leap of my own at the moment. I am going back to University after thirteen years of focus on family, fitness and work. None of these things have gone away thankfully, I just thought I would pile a little bit extra on top. I think I will need to come back to this post time and time again to find my strength over the next few years. This time I have the benefit confidence of having achieved a few things I never thought I could achieve, mostly sporty stuff as this has never been my forte. I now have a little bit more muscle memory to push through the hard times as the benefits definitely outweigh the costs. So many possibilities still to explore, boundaries to push, how exciting is that!!
