ICANN exposing your privacy details
Hi Everyone,
I received an email from Namecheap this morning stating that ICANN is in the process of making the WHOIS directory public.
What this means is that your names and address details that you provided when you purchased your website domain name will be publicised.
The problem with this is that you could end up with unscrupulous people contacting you and making threats. This has already happened to one WA member that I know and it can be very frightening if the culprits also know your home address.
Namecheap have set up a campaign to try and stop this from happening. See the attached link: https://www.respectourprivacy.com/
We have until July 27th before a final decision on this matter is made.
Take care.

This is really bad news.
I just wonder why on earth ICANN wants to go through with this decision, what is it good for and what is the legal basis for their decision?
I wish I knew what they are thinking, but it does not sound good. It will open up the floodgates for all the scammers and time wasters out there.
I am hoping that with enough people telling them that this is a bad idea that they will see sense.
Just emailed them. I got this from Namecheap and wondered.... Thank you for the clarification and the call to action.
I also received this email, it kinda scared me. I sent an email to contact ICANN. Hope this problem will be solved, it will be a big scandal if our private details will be published and no one wants that.
All the best,
Cristina
Thank you, Cristina.
I totally agree that this is scary and could cause a big scandal. As mentioned in the email, I am sure that they need a court order to do this.
Hopefully, the more of us that submit a request against it the less chance they will have of implementing their plans.
Best wishes.
Lis.
I don't think that is possible. Your details are linked to your domain name and where you purchased the domain from so you have to use correct details for your purchase.
Also, if the domain organisation need to contact you are your details are false they can shut down you domain.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Lis.
I have responded in support of stopping the ICANN decision. I do not think it should be allowed.

I already sent an email. Hopefully, everyone else at Wealthy Affiliate does too.
That is great. The people who have seen these posts are responding so the more the merrier. This is really poor judgement by ICANN.
