Any Woo Commerce Users Out There?

Black Friday Was A Blowout For Us...

But, unfortunately, not in a good way.

Early Friday morning I was alerted that someone had made a purchase of $695.99 using my PayPal Debit Card number.

I spent 3 hours on the phone trying to get to the bottom of the situation. Finally, I was able to get in touch with a real human being at PayPal and dispute the transaction. As things stand now, I believe we have the situation in hand.

But this raises some serious concerns with me.

Up to now we have relied heavily upon PayPal to accept payments from people online for our products and services. Over the years we have been pleased, but a few issues like the one mentioned above have me seriously considering alternative payment methods we can use with our WP blogs.

One alternative I am considering is WooCommerce. And so I am wondering...

Does anyone out there use WooCommerce for their online business?

And, if so, are you happy with it?

Would you recommend it to others?

Or, are their other payment processors out there that people like and would recommend?

I am beginning to feel like we have had our eggs in one basket for far too long. Any recommendations for other baskets will be appreciated!

Many Thanks,

Ralph

Sucks when we experience theft. It is good to hear you may have to reverse your loss. I hope. Getting back on track may not include getting out of PayPal, Whatever happened may happen at the new handler. I know nothing about this area. I'll bet you will find the answers within this WA family. Cheers, Jeffrey

Sad, but the bad guys are often a step ahead of the good guys. Hope you get it resolved. A major miracle you got a real human to talk to about the situation.

Yes, a major miracle indeed. :-)

Turns out I woke up at 5 AM and checked Email to see if I had any new business referrals. That is when I discovered the message from PayPal. I stayed awake and called PayPal offices just as they opened for morning business. Talked to a very helpful man without being asked to hold. Seems the timing on everything was just right.

Thanks for the comment Mark!

I will remember that strategy. It probably was a janitor who was late leaving. lol

Also...when all else fails...scream profanities at the robot operator. LOL.

Wow! At least glad you caught it . Hopefully you're able to get it resolved and the charge reversed.

Hopeful here that all is coming back into order.

Thanks CM! :-)

That is sooo scary!! Sorry for you!! Hope you'll get refunded.

Fortunately we caught it while the charge was still Pending. PayPal said they would review the transaction per my complaint and not process the charge until after the review is complete. So we are not actually out any money as of yet. :-)

Hi Ralph, sorry to hear you have had a bad experience.

I think the question to ask is "How did this person get your Debit Card information"?

If they were able to hack into your WordPress Site or ??? It is unlikely they could hack into PayPal.

As your card number and account details were used, it wont much matter who your processor is, as they all use the same techniques for authenticating a transaction.

I am looking into that question too Allan. Believe it was a person in Russia who got it through Netflix. Was busy yesterday changing passwords on all accounts and I also deactivated that debit card first thing.

Thanks,
Ralph

I've never used a debit card and never will, Ralph--for reasons such as these! I always use a credit card and then pay it off every month, that way, they don't have a direct "in" to my checking account!

Jeff

I guess my point is to focus on the source of the leak rather than the platform for your store ...

Woo Commerce is widely used and there are many add on features.

It really depends on the number of products and complexity of your requirements as to whether this is the right way to go.
Rather than take on a very complex upgrade it might be best to analyze why you are thinking of using a new plug in ... was your existing one at fault here? I don't think so ...
