Hi all,

Prompted by a clients question to me as to what is the best way to get found on Voice Search last week I finally started my research. I really did not know that this was a "thing" until she asked the question. I share some of my research here for our community.

Chat GPT gave me good info as follows:

Optimizing for voice search involves making your online content more accessible and appealing to voice-activated virtual assistants like Siri, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa. Here are some tips to help you get found on voice search:

  1. Focus on Conversational Keywords:
    • Voice searches are often more conversational than typed queries. Use long-tail keywords and phrases that mimic natural language and the way people speak.
  2. Create FAQ Pages:
    • Anticipate and answer questions your audience might ask. Develop FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) pages that address common queries and include natural language.
  3. Optimize Local SEO:
    • Many voice searches are location-based, so optimize your content for local search. Ensure your business information is accurate and up-to-date on Google My Business and other local directories.
  4. Page Speed Optimization:
    • Voice searches are often performed on mobile devices, so ensure that your website is mobile-friendly and loads quickly. Page speed is a crucial factor for voice search optimization.
  5. Use Schema Markup:
    • Implementing schema markup helps search engines understand the context of your content. This can improve the chances of your content being selected for voice search results.
  6. Optimize for Featured Snippets:
    • Voice assistants often pull information from featured snippets (position zero) in search results. Structure your content in a way that is easily scannable and provides concise answers to common queries.
  7. Natural Language Content:
    • Write content in a conversational tone and focus on providing clear and concise answers to user queries. Avoid overly technical language and jargon.
  8. Utilize Long-Form Content:
    • Long-form content tends to rank higher in search results. However, it's important to balance length with relevance and engagement. Aim for in-depth content that thoroughly covers a topic.
  9. Local Business Optimization:
    • For local businesses, ensure that your business information is consistent across various online platforms, including your website, social media profiles, and business directories.
  10. Voice Search Analytics:
    • Use analytics tools to monitor and analyze voice search queries. This can help you understand user behavior and adjust your content strategy accordingly.
  11. Optimize for Mobile Devices:
    • As most voice searches occur on mobile devices, it's crucial to have a mobile-friendly website. Ensure that your site is responsive and provides a seamless experience on smartphones and tablets.
  12. Build a Presence on Voice Platforms:
    • If applicable, explore opportunities to build a presence on voice platforms like Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. Develop skills or actions that align with your brand and industry.

By incorporating these strategies, you can enhance your chances of being found in voice search results and provide a better experience for users interacting with your content through voice-activated devices.
