Hello we are new and just getting started with our keyword research and ranking. We have seen the videos Kyle posted in the training course and asked if there is anything more
Hi, my advice when first starting is to not pay too much attention to the keyword tools. Sounds strange I know.
Whatever niche you are in, go to Google and start typing in a question for example:
Are English Bulldogs 'A' and see what questions come up. When they auto-complete it means people have asked the question in the search engine. Then go to B, C etc. (Alphabet Soup method).
Go through the alphabet and find as many questions as possible and write them down or put them in a spreadsheet.
Then for each question, check the competition on Google and see what sites are ranking for that question - if they are small sites, Quora, etc. then they might be worth writing about.
Also, check what the top posts are actually writing - can you do better? Then write the post but stay on the topic of the question.
This is the simplest way to get started with writing your posts - Google is telling you what people are searching for.
So to make it relevant to your question you could ask:
Is Lager - the first question that appears 'is lager the same as beer'?
Is lager ok to drink out of date?
Can Lager cause acne?
Is Lager Gluten-Free?
There are so many questions right there on the search and Google is telling you that people are searching for it.
My last point is don't always believe what the keyword tools tell you what the search traffic for a phrase is - they don't actually know. Only Google knows and they don't tell us. Plus a well-written post will likely rank for many search phrases.
There have been many cases where search engines have said there is very low traffic for keywords, yet when written they can pull in thousands of page views per month.
I hope this makes sense.
Wow, thank you so much! That was the in-depth answer we were hoping for and yes it makes sense. We will definitely try out these techniques and follow your advice.
We really appreciate your advice and the time you took to write to us.
Thanks much!
No problem. I just wanted to add, go for the less competitive questions first and then as you write more posts start to write more in depth articles for slightly more competitive questons.
All the very best - let me know how you get on.
Cheers,
Mark
