Lombardi time

If you haven't heard of Lombardi Time, this may interest you.

Vince Lombardi was head coach in the 1960's of the US NFL Green Bay Packers american football team. To this day the Packers have the best all-time record in the NFL, they were organized as a team in 1919. But I digress.

Lombardi time means being 15 minutes early for anything you do. Vince Lombardi considered anyone late to a meeting or practice, if they were not 15 minutes early. His punishment included wind-sprints, locker room cleaning, and other debasing stuff. After awhile people were rarely late. To this day the field clock outside the Packers stadium, Lambeau Field, in Green Bay Wisconsin, is permanently set 15 minutes fast.

I have lived on Lombardi time for many years. Being early is uncommon and well received these days. It takes most of the stress away and gives time to relax and prepare.

We should all live on Lombardi time, dontcha think?

Aaron Rogers grandparents live close to my place. They fly the packers flag in front of their home every Sunday that the team is playing. No matter how early I get up on Sunday, the flag is already flying. They must be on Lombardi time. I'm a Raiders fan, but you have to respect the Packers. Thanks for the story.

Showing up early for an appointment or activity takes away any unwanted stress and anxiety.

Thanks for sharing.

Amazing, my husband now deceased was from Wisconsin. I have 2 sons 18 and 22 and they (just like him) are avid Packer Fans. We have so many Packer things, footballs signed by players, photographs that we took at Packer games, close up at the players (Bret Farve) for one. They are lucky boys, got to go to a few Packer games at Lambeau, even though we are in Virginia. Just thought I would stop and say I know Lombardi time, it has been etched into me.

Great post and Yes I remember "the pack is back" they are one of the greatest football teams of all time.

Being a football fan dating back to the late 1960's, I always thought that Vince Lombardi, and not Bill Belichek was the greatest NFL coach of all-time. At least Lombardi did not resort to secretly filming other teams' practices and other shenanigans all designed to give his team an advantage.

And yes, I agree with what you said regarding Lombardi time. Too many folks believe that just showing up, (barely on time) is part of a good work ethic. They would all be wrong!

Great post, Leon!
Jeff

Great story and great point Leon. Cheers, William.

I do that at work as well.

LDT Lombardi Daylight Time

I think being early for an appointment or work is a great idea. Gives us time to mentally prepare for the day and get all our bearings together. I Usually like arriving to places with at least 10-30 minutes to spare.

I think we all should, being early for work gives you a few minutes to drink your coffee, relax before you hit the bump an grind. I would always get to work 30 minutes early just so I could mental get prepared for the day ahead.
Lombardi time should be practiced by all and its actually very beneficial, you don't feel rushed all the time.
