Welcome to the information age

I remembered that during my school days, my parents (especially my mother) would lecture me on the importance of studying. She would say that if I did not study, I would end up being a road sweeper or garbage collector; a lowly dirty, underpaid profession. Being a good son, I took her advice and studied hard to become an engineer. Life being an engineer was interesting at the beginning but it soon became a routine; being at the office before 8.00 a.m. and going back in the evening and sometimes at night. Life was becoming stressful as well, from going to work and being stuck in a traffic jam for hours, answering to your senior and being scolded for some mistakes that you have done. Well, that was life during the industrial age where everyone was expected to learn a profession, earn a decent salary and then retire with a nice pension. Then came the personal computer and the Internet. With a personal computer connected to the Internet, you could easily share information with other Internet users from around the world. As computers become cheaper and the internet bandwidth becomes faster and cheaper, every business is jumping on the bandwagon to leverage on the low cost Internet infrastructure. You could advertise your products or services on the Internet and disseminate marketing information to your prospects 24 hours a day, 365 days a year as the Internet doesn't sleep. Your could sell your products or services to customers all over the world. You could sell your products or services without even necessary to have a shop front. With the Internet, you can easily send digital files, images and information to any other computer in the network, often within seconds. With the Internet, INFORMATION has thus become a commodity. People are willing to pay for INFORMATION. Whether it is information on how to use the computer; how to set up a website; how to advertise or sell your products or services on the internet, how to make money online etc; people are willing to pay top notch money to learn. More money is spent online buying information than anything else. The Internet has given a new avenue for entrepreneurs (young and old alike) to pursue their passion and make money at the same time. You will make money by selling information about something and that something may be your passion or hobbies or an area that you already know something about or that you are an expert in. The Internet business also offers you advantages that no other type of business can give you. You decide on HOW, WHEN and WHERE you want to work as long as you have a personal computer and an Internet access. You don't have to wake up early in the morning so that you can get to work by 8a.m. You don't have to get stuck in traffic jams anymore as you can work from the comfort of your own home. And most importantly, you don't have to answer to anybody as you are your own boss. Well, that sounds too good to be true isn't it. Well, it will be TRUE as long as you don't give up pursuing your dream. Keep working on your dream WA members, and "WELCOME TO THE INFORMATION AGE".
