Why Every Article on Your Site Doesn't Need to Sell (And Why That's a Good Thing)

Why Every Article on Your Site Doesn't Need to Sell (And Why That's a Good Thing)

The Question I Keep Hearing

A few of our newer members reached out to me recently, all asking some version of the same thing. They had been posting consistently, following the training, and doing everything they were told to do, yet their affiliate dashboard was still sitting at zero. I spoke with each of them, and honestly, this is one of the most common questions in the early stages of building a website. It does not mean something is broken. It usually just means the pieces of your site have not connected yet.

Not Every Article Has One Job

One thing I have learned while building my own website is that every article does not need to make a sale. Some articles are there simply to attract visitors who are searching for information. Some exist to help a beginner solve a specific problem. Some are written to build trust, showing your reader that you genuinely understand what they are going through. And some are there to introduce a solution, gently pointing toward a product or platform that could help.

If you look at a single post and judge it only by whether it converted, you are missing the bigger picture. A post that never earns a click today might still be doing important work, warming someone up for a decision they make later, on a completely different page.

How These Articles Work Together

When these different types of articles begin working together, your website becomes something much more useful than a collection of random blog posts. It starts to function like a system.

A visitor might arrive through a simple how-to article, one that has no affiliate link at all. From there, they read another post that addresses a problem they are facing. Eventually, they land on an article where your recommendation actually makes sense, and that is where the sale happens. This is exactly why internal linking matters so much. Without it, these articles sit in isolation, each waiting for a visitor who may never find them. With it, you are building a path.

A few ways this shows up in practice:

  • A beginner guide can quietly link to a product review once the reader understands the problem
  • A "how to get started" post can link to a more detailed resource further down the journey
  • A trust-building post, like a personal story or lessons learned, can link to your top recommendation at the natural moment it fits

Zooming Out: Your Site as a Whole, Not a Pile of Posts

This is the shift I encourage our members to make. Instead of asking whether one article made a sale, start asking whether your site as a whole is working together. Are your posts connected? Is there a path a visitor can follow from curiosity to trust to a recommendation that actually fits what they need? That question matters far more than any single article's performance.

A Simple Next Step

If you are in that early stage where sales still feel out of reach, take a look at your last few published posts. Ask yourself what role each one is playing. Is it attracting visitors, solving a problem, building trust, or introducing a solution? Then look for one place where a natural internal link could connect two of those posts.

What role do you think your most recent article is playing on your site, and is there another post it could naturally link to?

David.
