OMG I just found one of my posts on the first page on Google!
So tonight I decided to go to Google+ and share a couple of my past posts... but I certainly wasn't prepared for what happened next!
Yes, I just used a click bait line but seriously. I had NO idea how much Google likes it when you post on Google+.
Here's what happened:
On Google+, I shared a post of mine that's a couple weeks old. Then, after goofing around on Google Analytics and the Webmaster tools, I decided to check where a couple of my posts were on Google search results.
So I went with the post I'd just shared since it was fresh in my mind. I searched for the keyword "How to find a freelance writer " in quotes - a low-hanging fruit keyword phrase - and wasn't too surprised that I came in 8th out of the 9 results that weren't ads on that page.
Then I decided to see where the page was if I searched for the keyword phrase WITHOUT QUOTES and this won't surprise many of you but I was rocked back a bit:
I was at the Number Two spot on the first page, with over 8 MILLION results for that search term.
But the search result came back for the post I'd just made on Google+, less than an hour before.
It even had my little picture and my name as part of the search result. Mine was the only one
I checked another keyword phrase: "effective storytelling techniques" and my Google+ posts for my blog posts using that keyword phrase are in the Number 1 AND Number 10 spots on page 1 of the results.
I am officially freaked out at how easy that was.
