Grab the Bulls By The Horn. Or Something Like That.
Four days ago, I got up at my usual time and, like always, the first thing I did was check all my websites to see if anything was scheduled to post that day.
To my shock, two of my sites looked like a total mess. Pictures were all over the place, out of proportion, and basically just… garbled.
That first day, I figured it might have been my last theme update causing the problem, so I started troubleshooting. I went through the usual drill — deactivating plugins one by one, reactivating them to see if that fixed it. No luck.
Next, I went into my media files, re-optimized the images, refreshed the pages, and everything looked fine. I thought, “Great, problem solved.”
The next morning? Same mess again. That’s when I decided to put in a support ticket, because I honestly had no clue what was going on. My gut told me it had something to do with recent server upgrades.
By the third day, I still hadn’t heard back from support, so I went back to tinkering. I repeated the same troubleshooting steps, Googled possible fixes — still nothing. The part that really got me was, why only these two sites and not the others?
So I went into Site Manager and started checking every setting across all my sites. I hit “Refresh” on every one, and sure enough, the same two sites were still broken. Then I clicked over to the “Details” tab and combed through every setting.
Boom — there it was. The two problem sites had SiteSpeed turned ON with the caching option set to Extreme Mode.
I switched both of them over to “Accelerated” mode, refreshed the pages, and like magic… problem solved.
The thing is, I’ve had those settings from day one. My guess is one of the recent server upgrades finally decided it didn’t like “Extreme Mode.”
Lesson learned: sometimes you just have to roll up your sleeves and figure it out yourself, because waiting on help sometimes doesn't come.
I am not writing this to bad mouth support. They have gotten back to me in previous problems, so this 1 time of not answering did not bother me.
My main purpose of writing this is because if this happened to me, it could happen to you too. Make sure your settings are not on "Extreme"

Hey, Larry,
Lesson learned, in the hardest way. They say experience is the best teacher. On my end, everything looks perfect, though all my three sites are set to Extreme mode.
Thanks for sharing this experience with us.
John
Are all three using the Astra Theme the 2 that was messed up were. But like I mentioned, could be a combination of server issues too..

Just in case, i check to make sure site speed wasn't in extreme mode (it wasn't). I'm doing everything i can think of!
I have asked repeatedly for my site backup to be restored, and I cannot comprehend why they won't just restore the backup? This is what backups are for!
I haven't had a response in over a day.
I'm not scared of doing the work myself, and I'm not sure if you're aware, but the admins have removed our ability to back up our own sites because they SAY they do this for us. However, I need this backup restored, and I can't seem to get that to happen.
What are the magic words to get my backup restored? This IS me wanting to roll up my sleeves and fix it. I've even literally sent them what ChatGPT suggested could be the problem AND how to troubleshoot. Again, I can't troubleshoot because WA does not give users access to all of our WordPress files.
