Technology Some Good Some Bad

If it wasn't for technology this world would not be where it is today. Everyone knows that, I am sure. Nothing new to you or anyone else.

Most technology is good but I am starting to believe that there is some that needs to go.

A private conversation between my wife and I the other day has proven to me that all is not good.

We have a dog, half German Shepard and Half Great Pyrenese. Needless to say she is a big dog and is now around 10 years old.

She is a big baby and stays in the house. If my wife or I am gone she sits in our chair and waits for us to come home. Won't eat or anything till we get back.

Now I'll get back to my point that I was starting to make.

Pupcake (the grandkids named her when watching Strawberry Shortcake) has been limping on her right rear foot. I have dug around and can't find anything wrong with it.

My wife and I were talking and I told her that I am afraid it is her hip or joints. This conversation was in our house. I have not looked for products to help her online. I have not done any searches on the problem or products that might help. Nothing has been discussed over the phone with anyone about this.

Since that conversation, every time I get on my phone and go to a website or get on my computer and go to a website I am bombarded with ads about a product for dogs with hip pain or arthritis.

Needless to say, I am contemplating getting rid of every product in this house.

It is a shame that two people can't talk to each other in the privacy of their own home without someone being able to listen in. Most people will say I am crazy but that is the only possible way that anyone or any website could know what we discussed that day.

Just a fluke? I don't really think so because of the all of the ads that I have seen since then.

Honestly I wouldn't have believed this story if it wasn't my own. My son has told me someone is always able to listen in whenever they want to through phone, televisions or computers. I thought about it but didn't really believe it till now.

Would be glad to see you thoughts and comments on what you have seen regarding this.

Larry

Yes, the hazards of a connected society, Big business and Gov want to know what is happening.

You are right Stanley but it is getting bad when you can't talk to your wife with a cell phone laying around. That's the only way it could have been picked up.

I've heard the same things, Larry! Big Brother IS watching!

Ha Ha!, Larry! 😲🤪👍

Hi Larry, have you a webcam on your computer? For security I have the factory installed camera on my laptop covered with gaffer / insulation tape. Just a thought.

No webcam. Just our phones laying here. The desktop and tv were on.

It's true that the government can listen to calls and turn any devices with microphones into listening devices for their purposes. We don't know a lot about it - but I think that there's more than it meets the eye.

It can be true but it doesn't have to be in your case.

The way ads work is that they rely on cookies. Did you maybe search for help or solution to the problem using any of the search engines?

You might not have been looking at products, but trying to diagnose your dog with the help of the internet might be the reason you are seeing these specific ads.

However, it doesn't have to be... I once chatted with someone about a specific game, and tomorrow when I opened my Facebook - guess which ads were there? The game I've chatted about to someone. I wasn't looking for the game in any search engines and I didn't speak about it to anyone - yet I just mentioned it in a chat once.

This just shows how little we know about social media platforms and the way our data is used so I share your concerns!

Cheers,
Dario

No, that was my point. It has never been brought up anywhere except in a conversation in our living room. No search, no Facebook or anything on line.
That was the reason for my concern.
I am used to seeing ads after messaging someone or talking on the phone but never just by having a personal conversation.

Interesting you should say this....I don't have a TV, but what concerns me is the way one can be followed around online by sites with 'cookie' access.

It seems nowadays, that we can't access most sites unless we click on 'Accept'...Next minute the ads follow your every move.

I ignore them all - it's a waste of my time and theirs!

Thanks for sharing and I do hope Cupcake gets better....

Much Blessings,

Stella
